From http://veritysviragoventure.blogspot.com/2009/07/austen-problem.html

Virago republished the six novels by Jane Austen as VMCs no.s 341-346, and I'm not planning to blog about them individually as I read them a while ago. However, I do want to post pictures of the covers. Unfortunately, after a trawl through librarything.com and Amazon I'm unable to find any pictures of the Virago editions. I guess these must be pretty rare as there are so many other editions of Austen available. Has anyone seen these editions?

Verity - I have scanned the Austen covers into my computer and when I refresh I will try and put them on the home page of each title.. may take me a little while..

Thanks Patricia, I've just had a snoop through your library and they are not like the covers I expected - and termed 'Virago Classics' as opposed to 'Virago Modern Classics', which would explain why they don't have the same design as the VMCs.

I don't like them all that much...and as I said on Verity's blog, I really don't see why Virago felt the need to do their own editions of Austen...as if there aren't enough already!

Verity - your post prompted me to remember a copy of Sense and Sensibility sent to me as a gift from, I believe bleurose. It has the Virago Modern Classic number 'square' with 343 in it.

I used my Cuecat to enter the book and it came up with the correct Virago cover which has no title but is reprinted by courtesy of the Board of Trustees of the Victoria and Albert Museum. Simply go to my library and search and you will find it!

I hang my face in shame as I realise I had not entered it into my library or my Virago spread sheet (kindly provided by dear friends here in our group)

Verity - I have now added the cover of Mansfield Park - it also carries this note on the back cover "Front Cover reproduced by courtesy of the Victoria and Albert Museum..
