I can't recall what I have read up to this point but I know it wasn't much. I run a busy busy life and only recently have been able to read prolifically. I am in the process of reading more than a dozen books that have been started at various points in time over the past few years.

I am currently actively reading Bastard Out of Carolina by Dorothy Allison, who I had the lovely pleasure of meeting here in Chicago.

I have read since I've been keeping track this year:
Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim on Audio
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy on Audio
Please Stop Laughing at Me
The Sex Lives of Cannibals on Audio
The Little Prince
Downtown Owl on Audio

My Goal: Read two books each week.

I forgot to add to the previous list that I recently finished The Beautiful Miscellaneous

I just started another book today and boy is it a thinker. I recommend that every person, regardless of beliefs or views read The Virtue of Selfishness

So I guess that puts me up to 9 so far, 6 of which were all in the last three weeks.

This morning I finished The Virtue of Selfishness on audio. It spawned a deep passion for activism in me. Our country needs a lot of reform in Health Care, Education, and Welfare amongst other things. I've set out to research these topics and write papers in the hopes of publishing them and making a difference. Wish me luck and if anyone would care to contribute please do. Also, if anyone knows of an activist group that I might fit into, or would like to start up a new one, do let me know.

This afternoon I am going to begin Invisible Monsters on audio. Should be a quick read/listen.

Did you feelings come about in juxtaposition to the author's opinions, or in support of the author? I can't tell from the title.

My feelings about the Virtue of Selfishness? As far as Ayn Rand is concerned I believe that she was a brilliant woman with many great ideas but she was lacking in areas and dead wrong, even, in others. The fact that she never gives clear solutions to the problems she writes about is one of my issues with her. Also, I do not subscribe to the philosophy of objectivism. All of that aside I think there is a lot to be gained from reading her work and highly recommend it to all.

I finished Invisible Monsters on audio yesterday and it was absolutely brilliant. I've been told by a few that it is his best work, but we'll see as I intend to read all of his other writings. He reminds me of a more philosophical David Sedaris.

With Invisible Monsters out of the way I am off to start a new audio book, Leaves of Grass

I am still working on Bastard Out of Carolina but should finish that soon and will be moving on to Why We Love: The Nature and Chemistry of Romantic Love
