Not just in general!

But for some reason I want to collect Barnes & Noble gift cards. I love the look of their gift cards, and often use them as bookmarks. It's great if they have money on them so I can buy books, but I'd like to get some on my own. Do you think B&N would let me have a blank card every once in a while?

Okay, yes. I'm just plain weird.

It can't hurt to ask. Worst case, "Uh, no, ... What kinda nut ARE you?"

Also, let family & friends know you'd like the cards, with OR without $ on them. Then you can zero them out on a book buying trip, and put some kind of teeny sticker on a corner so you know This Is A Bookmark Now.

Blessings,
Leigh

When you go to B&N, pick out a card and put how much money you plan to spend on that trip on the card. Then have them use the card to actually purchase the books. Some people do that with gas cards. At the start of the month they put how much gas they think they'll use all month long on a gift card so they'll not spend the money on other things.

Oh and i don't think it's any more weird than any other collection like stamps or coins.

I like to collect pre-WWI dirigibles. Is that odd?

6jugglingpaynes
Sep 5, 2009, 10:22 pm

Not as odd as collecting cats.

speaking from experience, crazy cat lady?

Yes you are, crazy cat man.

Kirby,

I kind of do the same thing: people send me lots of Starbucks gift cards, which sit in my wallet, and accumulate becuase I brew my own coffee. About once a month, I'll treat myself to Starbucks just to get rid of the gift cards.

#7: Woman. Crazy cat woman. :oP~~~

Catbastet asked if you collect bats if that makes you batman.

Sep 6, 2009, 9:22 pm

And what if you collect spiders, does that make you spiderman? and what about super? or iron? or what about wonders? (you know, wonderwoman)

12jugglingpaynes
Sep 7, 2009, 12:06 am

Are you allowed to keep supers? And where would you keep them?

Oh, editing my number 10: Eccentric. Eccentric cat woman.

for heaven's sake. It's crazy cat lady, everyone knows that. Catwoman is a superhero. Also, i understand that you have to be rich to be deemed eccentric. If you wear colourful tea cosies on your head and you're not wealthy, you are just called crazy.

>#8: Just because we have a crazy cat, that does not make me a crazy cat man.

ETA: crazy candle lady.

Looney Ailurophilic...Person

And Catwoman is a super-VILLAIN Mr Smarty-Pants.

#1 kirby:
I've never wanted to actually collect them but there have been times that I thought, 'it would be nice to have a $5 giftcard on that card.' ;) I had really wanted to keep my B&N DH giftcard when I bought my copy of DH and was sad that the cashier wouldn't let me. (Which doesn't make sense. As a cashier I always ask customers first before tossing empty giftcards.)

villain, hero... it all depends on your perspective.

18jugglingpaynes
Sep 8, 2009, 8:50 pm

True, true. I'm sure for someone plotting to take over the world, Catwoman would be a hero.

My darling daughter corrected me. Catwoman is not a super villain because she has no super powers. Except for claws.

Back to you, MrA.

I collect collections. I have collected a very large collection of partially completed collections, but sadly my collection of completed collections is not as collected as I would like.

20jugglingpaynes
Sep 10, 2009, 9:08 pm

Do you collect dust as well?

21jugglingpaynes
Sep 10, 2009, 9:10 pm

Because I have some prime dust if you're interested. And I'll practically give it away! No collection is complete without it!

22MrAndrew

I collect thoughts. Sometimes i forget where i put them, and i have to recollect them.

Actually my collections seem to collect dust. I'll have to get them in contact with you.

I am reviving my salt and pepper shakers collection. I collect shaker sets that are not typical table ware. I have a hot dog stand and a pink cadillac set, A dog and fire hydrant set, a red and yellow pepper set and a set of outhouses. I used to have more but careless moving a few years ago broke them :(

We collect cat whiskers. My mom has a little container she puts them in that's kept in a black bag covered in tiny white cat paw prints. Eventually she's going to make a cat and give it real whiskers. (No, JP, we don't need any more cat whiskers. ;)

KIK. It was my mother's idea. All I did was sew the bag for her. ;)

#27 jp:
You've always been so kind. Please, keep them. I insist. :)

#24 - I used to have salt and pepper shakers which were a pair of feet. I don't know where they are now...

I used to collect paper bags. I have no idea why. Ridiculous. I think maybe I just wanted to have a collection, but was a bit too lazy to invest in something interesting, so paper bags it was. Dear me....

Sep 13, 2009, 4:18 pm

Oh LadyN, I did that too! My collection didn't start out intentionally, but whenever I'd get a cool bag, I'd save it. I'd then use them to tote stuff stuff as needed until the bag got too shabby. But there are a few still hanging in my closet that I just couldn't use they were so awesome.

My husband collects comic books and has a fairly sizable baseball card collection, but he no longer adds to it.

I think we're going to start collecting rubber ducks from when we travel. I've already got one from Seattle Public Library...every collection has got to start somewhere!

I used to collect postcards. I guess the closest thing I have to a collection these days (other than books and movies) are my dolls from tv, books, and movies. I don't have a lot of them though and I'm very picky about what makes the collection.

#31 - I'm so glad I'm not the only one. On a completely separate note, please give Rex a big cuddle from me. :-)

again, edited due to solitary champagne consumption...

#30, 31, 33 -- I have a sizable collection of those recyclable cloth grocery bags that everyone and their brother is selling or giving away these days. I have all different colors and sizes -- two that I keep in the car, hoping that I will remember to use them for quick shopping trips, and more at home for big grocery shopping days. Sometimes I even remember to use them! The nice thing about this collection is that I have never actually bought one of these bags -- they have all been giveaways from various places (usually conferences).

Oh yes, foggi, I have that collection too! We're actually really good about using them, which is an added bonus. I keep a small string mesh bag in my purse or the diaper bag, which has resulted in the cut back of adding to my paper bag collection. :o)

The hubby and I seem to have started a beer glass collection. It's getting pretty big.

#31 grmwk:
You'll want to watch out on getting too many rubber ducks with little Rex. My kid sister was lost in a bathtube at four surrounded by her collection of rubber ducks - there were over forty of them, mostly wearing sunglasses. ;)
