I tried to start with The Color of Magic but just couldn't get into it so I put aside Pratchett's novels for months before deciding to try again. This time I started with Monstrous Regiment and basically got hooked and I haven't look back since.

My first one was The Last Continent and I read it because I am from XXXX.
I found it very odd but kept on reading them anyway. My second one was The Hogfather which was, perhaps not a good choice either - it would have been better if I had read Mort first so that I would have some background.
I agree with you about The Colour of Magic. It doesn't seem to fit in with the other books and it is the only one of Pratchett's books which I don't re-read every so often.

My fist one was The last hero, which is still one of my favourites. the I read the first few of the series in order until I got to Wyrd Sisters, then I just skipped ahead and read all the witches ones adn after that I just read them randomly.

Reaper Man! I think i followed that with wyrd sisters and mort, still like the early stuff the best

I first read The Bromeliad trilogy starting with Truckers, before I had any idea who Terry Pratchett was. I started with The Colour of Magic when it first came out and then devoured each in the series in succession.
There are a couple of the last ones in the disc world series that I haven't read. I think the idea that there won't be anymore has sort of made me want to saviour them some time in the future.

I started with Small Gods and have been hooked ever sense.

Just checked my Read in 2009 list and realized that I half of the books that I have read have been Terry Pratchett books. Anyway, I want to eventually go back and read The Colour of Magic because I just watched the movie on Netflix and really enjoyed it.

My first was Thief of Time and my second was Night Watch. After that I read any I could get my paws on. Now I am going back and reading them all in order.
9bethielouwho
I loved Night Watch and I really want to read Thief of Time.

I first read Reaper Man. From there I devoured every Terry Pratchett book I could get my hands on.

hmmmm sorry to be boring but I started with "The Colour Of Magic" and went through them in publication order. I did sidetrack to Sir Terry's other works like Johnny Maxwell, The Bromeliad, Strata etc. but again read them in their publication order where applicable.
Currently rereading TCOM.

You're not boring, I generally try to read series in order that they were published. I got a non Discworld book today The Unadulterated Catanybody else read this one?
13pinkozcat
Yes - I have a copy of The Unadulterated Cat - somewhere! It is not with my other Pratchett books; probably with my cat books instead.
It is an OK book but not one of my favourites.

Not read it, in fact it appears to be one of the few books by Sir Terry that I don't own.

#12 - I own it, but haven't read it. I'm still making my way through Discworld in character (?) order. I'm about to start on Making Money.
dfmorgan - I don't think that's boring at all, and I'll probably do that after I've read all the books the way I'm reading them now. I happen to be one of those folks who really enjoyed The Color of Magic.

I received Where's my Cow today in the mail and I love it!

Started with Mort - it was loaned to me by a friend in high school. I was quickly hooked, and went back to read The Color of Magic . After that I pretty much proceeded in series order, largely because I caught up quickly and had to wait for the next ones to be published.

Am feeling very very old, as I first read The colour of magic when it was published in the early 80's, sand so have read all TP's books as each has been published. And then I've gone back and re-read so many, as I own everything TP has written, and I love his books.
