LibraryThing now has "related movies" in Common Knowledge, which links to IMDB (read about it here). Several Virago Modern Classics have been made into films, so why not make sure this is recorded in Common Knowledge? This would be similar to our Viragos Described project.
If you know of a VMC with a related movie, add it to Common Knowledge and report back on it in this thread.
I added Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont and noted that Rebecca has already been done.

I added a couple - The Scapegoat, The Birds and Other Stories, An Angel at my Table. Then I fell on my sword and added the dreadful Peyton Place. Which Pat Barker book has the Stanley and Iris characters in it? Union Street? That was made into a horrible movie with Fonda and DeNiro as the title characters (moved from the North of England to America) and I feel somewhat reluctant to include it.

I have a few more to add. Sorry there's no links, my internet is slow today.

OK, this is fun. And by golly, spreadsheets are fun, too. So I felt compelled to add a column to the Virago Collection Tracker to note those with "related movies" entered !

OMG. I had no idea ..

Me neither - but hang on. Surely The Thorn Birds is not a VMC?

It's in our tracker ! I dutifully added Christina's barrage to the spreadsheet this afternoon.

> 15 - Yes - Julie -it is VMC 530 - The mini-series is at the top of my worst series ever - fell about laughing at the TV interpretation - Richard Chamberlain in the role of the Cardinal was one of the worst performances he ever did (with apologies to those who liked him as young Doctor Kildare!!) - I would think most of the actors featured would cringe if they ever look at film of their performances.
It was published as a VMC on the 30th anniversary of the publication of the book with an introduction by Maeve Binchy who wrote that "The Thorn Birds" has hypnotised readers who have never been remotely near Australia into feeling that Drogheda is just down the road."
I am not a fan of Colleen McCullough's writing but have to admit to a copy in my library as a VMC:-))

Ladies - I stand corrected. It was upon that awful mini series that I jumped to the wrong conclusion.
Mutters to herself ... to think it is a real green VMC ...

Am I the only one who liked The Thorn Birds? I do not think it deserves to be a Virago Print, but I liked the book a lot back when I read it in the 70's.
