I have so many books lying around waiting to be read, but I'm always bringing home too many library books which then take up my reading time.
I'm setting a target of 50 books most of which I'll be reading for my 1010 category challenge.

I won't start this challenge till the New Year and will probably begin with a book that catches my eye quite often - Hunting and Gathering by Anna Gavalda (France). I saw the movie which starred Audrey Tautou and really liked the characters so was delighted to see it was a book adaption.

Welcome! 50 is an ambitious target, but with tying it to another challenge, I bet you make it. Good luck!

Hi lbradf - I read a lot of YA and children's fiction so I know my target is within reach. I tend to collect the works of writers I really like, but never get round to reading more than 1 or 2.

1) Hunting and Gathering by Anna Gavalda (2004) - fiction, France
I got this novel last year as I really enjoyed the movie which starred Audrey Tatou. Easier to read than The Elegance of the Hedgehog and offers wonderful glimpses of Parisian life.
On to the next book - Storm Front by Jim Butcher

1) Hunting and Gathering by Anna Gavalda - used copy acquired last year after watching the French film - Ensemble c'est tout and realising it was based on a book. Interesting characters.
2) Storm Front by Jim Butcher - used copy acquired last year due to LT recommendations in the 75 book challenge. First of a series about a private detective/wizard. Noir and magic.
3) Season of Secrets by Sally Nicholls - Scholastic children's books warehouse purchase - Green Man myth worked into a contemporary setting. Awkward but interesting. Will continue to read her books.
4) Tiny Deaths by Robert Shearman - acquired last year from bookdepository after discovering writer Rob Shearman here on LT. (Not available from library). An excellent short story collection and I can't wait to get hold of his latest collection.
5) Ancient Appetites by Oisin McGann - acquired last year when priced down. I wanted to read more by Irish writers for children & YA, and this fantasy fit the bill. (Not available from library). Recommended steampunkish fantasy set in Ireland starring engimals - animals blended with machines - very cool.
6) As the earth turns silver by Alison Wong - New Zealand debut fiction, published last year to rave reviews. Has beautiful cover art and I just had to have my own copy. (Library queue too long). Set in early 1900s Wellington, about Chinese immigrants, racism, poll tax, revolution, love.

7) Kes by Barry Hines (1968) - used copy acquired 2008. First published as Kestrel for a Knave. I've been wanting to read this since David Hill mentioned it as a memorable class read aloud at a seminar a couple of years ago. This is a poignant look at working class life in a grim mining town. There isn't any future here, and for Billy Casper, in his last year at school, not much of a present either. Bullied at home and at school, Billy survives each day best he can - he's tough, resourceful. He's sure about two things - he'll never work in the mines, and he has a special touch with animals. For the past year his life has revolved round his kestrel, Kes, and he spends every spare minute training the bird.
Inevitably sad, but well worth reading.

maybe the people who are making great progress can lend some shelf space to the rest of us? (Just kidding!!)
