Anybody else excited that the English translation of Night Watch is finally out? Anybody read it yet and willing to provide comparisons to the movies? I was blown away by the first movie, Night Watch, and entertained by the second (out on European DVD, if not US).

I understand both movies are based on the first book of the trilogy. I wonder what happens in the next two books of the trilogy if we've already got 2-3 movies worth of material out of the first!

Honestly, I've never heard of it (I'm a very casual horror fan, I guess), but that tag cloud is looking indulgent. Russian vampire fantasy? Why haven't heard about this?

Yes I have read it, and posted a review. It was a good read, much better than the movie which was awful.

The movie also is only loosely based on the first 'story' in the book. They change a lot of the details in the movie.

For some reason the book is split into 3 stories. They all have the same characters, settings, POV character, and they are chronological, so I have no idea why it was broken up. I am on Sffworld forums and there is someone there from either Russia or Eastern Europe and it is supposedly something they do. S/he also said the next book Day Watch was not very good but the next two were OK.

On the US book I have, it says Night Watch: A Novel is the first of a trilogy, so I don't know if they aren't publishing all four or are combinng four into three. They are already published in Russia. I still plan to read the next one.

I was aware of the movie trilogy breakdown, Nightwatch, Daywatch, and Duskwatch, and vaguely aware that the first two movies are based on the first two parts of the first book. What is Duskwatch based on, and what are the other books in the series called?

The English translation of Daywaych comes out in February, I believe. Probably around the same time of the American release of the Daywatch movie.

The Russian/Eastern European poster on my forum called the other 2 books (besides Day Watch and Night Watch) in the series: Grey Watch and Last Watch. Don't know if Grey Watch means Dusk Watch or not.

I've also heard Dusk Watch / Grey Watch also called Twilight Watch.

To be honest, I was first attracted to the very rock & roll production values of the movie. It wasn't until I got into the story that I realized that it was an adaptation. And the verdict from my roommate who devoured the book in one bus trip is that while the book and movie are very different beasts, they are both very good at what they do.
