Centipede Press has released a couple of new volumes that should be of interest to Weird Tradition members:

CONVERSATIONS WITH THE WEIRD TALES CIRCLE
http://www.centipedepress.com/art/wtcircle.html

"...a massive, oversize, celebration of the lives of H.P. Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith, Robert E. Howard, Frank Belknap Long, Seabury Quinn, E. Hoffmann Price, Henry Kuttner, C.L. Moore, Lee Brown Coye, Hannes Bok, August Derleth, Edmond Hamilton, Manly Wade Wellman, Fritz Leiber, Ray Bradbury, Robert Bloch, Donald Wandrei, Mary Elizabeth Counselman, and many others."

THE WEREWOLF OF PARIS
http://www.centipedepress.com/horror/werewolfparis.html

"A grisly classic of the occult, originally published in 1933, and quite erotic and disturbing even today."

These volumes are a little pricey, but Centipede Press books are gorgeous and highly collectible. Raid your piggy bank!

I have wanted to get a copy of the Endore forever. Will need to raid more than one piggy bank though!

I've got to say that I'm really surprised at just how good the Endore book is. It's grisly, and features some pretty blatant sexual perversity, especially seeing as how it was published in 1933. I think can detect some echoes of the case histories found in von Krafft-Ebing's Psycopathia Sexualis here. Maybe it was a source of inspiration? I'd like to know some more history on Endore and this novel. The Thomas Tessier intro says that Endore wrote in many fields, and this was his only horror novel. I'll have more to say after I finish. The book itself is gorgeous, from the cover design to the interior werewolf woodcuts and color reproductions of covers from various paperback editions. There are even a few movie posters from productions based on the book, such as Hammer's CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF. It's worth raiding the piggy bank for, slickpdx! I have my eye on the WEIRD TALES CIRCLE book, too. Did you see the cover? Nice! I think you can see samples on the Centipede website, but it's really expensive. So tempting , though. Down credit card, down!

While The Werewolf of Paris isn't exactly pulp material a la Weird Tales, I must say that it remains a uniquely horrifying read. The gruesome climax actually had me cringing! I especially enjoyed the manner in which author Endore would digress at various points, only to neatly pirouette such nasty little side trips right back into the main tale. It's truly a shame that he didn't right any other horror novels! A classic!

Besides the Conversations with the Weird Tales Circle volume, Centipede Press has been publishing like mad lately, with a "Masters of the Weird Tale" volume featuring not only Poe's tales, but most, if not all, of the major artwork associated with his work, from Dore to Gahan Wilson! Yikes!

Also upcoming are a non-fiction examination of Poe, plus Studies in Horror Film: Night of the Living Dead, and a special edition of The Fog by James Herbert!

Can anyone tell me if Poe is included in the Conversations with the Weird tales Circle volume?

Conversations with the Weird Tales Circle focuses specifically on the group of writers and artists who were actively involved with 'Weird Tales' magazine, so no Poe section, although his name certainly comes up often enough in the interviews. Coincidentally, Centipede Press just released two gorgeous volumes by and about Poe. See www.centipedepress.com for descriptions. The 'Weird Tales Circle' book, by the way, is nothing less than a treasure trove for anyone interested in these authors!
