This is for anyone who is interested in a group read of the book Storm Front by Jim Butcher. We are planning to start Jan. 1. You are welcome to jump in and comment anytime after that, but beware of reading too much, in case of spoilers.

Thanks for starting the thread Cindy! I'm really looking forward to this one.

I am just going to listen and chime in now and then... no idea where my own copy is - otherwise I would have read it again with you :)

I'm in! I've been wanting to read this book for so long! Will we be going through the other books as well or just the first one?
5Belladonna1975
I cant wait either! I have had this book for several years and have just never gotten around to reading it!

I read the first chapter to get an idea of style and such. It looked fantastic, but I had so much else going on that I didn't think starting it would be good idea at the time :P

My copy came in at the library last night, so I'm all set. Is everybody ready?
9Belladonna1975
I am just finishing up The Magicians so I should be all set to start on the 1st.

I'll be lurking for sure. I may even reread. Hope everybody enjoys.

I'm about 80 pages in and I'm enjoying it. Did anyone else see the series before reading the book?
12Belladonna1975
I did watch the TV show without having read the books. I am hoping that won't color my opinion too much. I will start the book tonight after we get home from going to see Avatar. :)
14VictoriaPL
I thought Avatar was fantastic! Did you enjoy it?

I loved it. We went and saw it in 3D at the IMAX. I can't wait for it to come out on DVD. I also saw the preview of Alice in Wonderland. It looks wonderful. I love Tim Burton/Johnny Depp/Helena Bonham Carter!! Off to start my book now!

Oh, I thought the group read was starting at the end of January. I'll look out my copy and start tonight.
I saw Avatar last week and loved it too.

It was sold out when we went, so we'll have to try again.
In Storm Front I'm about to page 100. Anyone want to share any thoughts?

I finished last night. In terms of style and writing, I thought the first third of the book was the best.
So, did the series combine Murphy and Susan? Everytime I read about the lights in Bob's skull it made me think of some kind of hoaky halloween decoration. I'm glad the series chose to employ an actor to portray Bob.

Yes and no (on Murphy and Susan). The combine the features a bit but I think in one of the series, Susan was there as well.

I finished last night too. I was surprised at the bad guy - I thought I had it figured out, but I was glad to be wrong. It's nice when you can't really predict how it's going to happen. I do want to read the next one in the series. Harry sure is a smart-aleck, isn't he? What is the TV series like?
23VictoriaPL
I feel bad about getting myself involved in a large series considering how many other unloved books are sitting in my TBR. So, I'm going to take a pass at more Butcher for right now. But I'll be looking forward to your reviews!

I am waiting for the new one later this year. I wish I had not read the previous ones so soon :)

I finished Storm Front tonight, it was a really fun read. I've got too many other books to read to continue with this series at the moment. I liked the visit with Bianca, her transformation was pretty intense.

I'd read the first 3 books in the series last year and decided the rest of the series would provide the basis for one of my categories, Having a Butcher's. Anyone not liked it yet?
27VictoriaPL
avatiakh, I too thought the passage with Bianca was intense. They really changed her for the series!

My copy had a preview of the latest book in the series and it was about that Enforcer dude (I don't have my copy and I can't remember his name - the one who kept wanting to cut Harry's head off) is in trouble and asks Harry to help him. I thought that would be an interesting switch.

Morgan. And it was really a good book :) Although a lot of places won't make sense if someone skips from book 1 to there directly :)

Ok, I just finished Storm Front. I really enjoyed it, actually much more than I thought I would. At this point, I think I am kind of burned out on the "witch/vampire-hunter/vampire/werewolf badass has to save the world" genre, having read way too many of those kinds of books in the past few years. However, I really like Harry. He is a trash talking wizard who puts his money where his mouth is. It is refreshing to read a book like this with a male protagonist. I kind of had it figured out as far as who the killer was about 2/3rds of the way through the book but I still enjoyed watching Harry get from A to B. Was anyone else really annoyed by Murphy besides me? If she would just shut the hell up for a second or two, Harry could explain himself but nooooooo she can't and then bad things happen.
Anyway, It was fun. I doubt I will be reading the next ones right now since I don't actually own them in paper form (I have all of the e-books) and my goal this year is to thin the paper herd. But, I do plan on reading them all at some point.
