I'm guessing that I'm not the only one who got at least a few new books lately. I want to hear what everyone else got! (You can talk about the other stuff you got, too, if you want.) ;-)

This was a good Christmas for books in my life -- I got five, all ones I had on my wish list or to-be-purchased list. They are:
The Dragon of Trelian
The Thirteenth House
I Am the Messenger
The Well of Ascension
An Abundance of Katherines
Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow

I've read all but the last one, but the others are all ones I've really wanted to own. Now I have to go find shelf space for them (decidedly tricky, since my shelves are all full and I have stacks of books in corners at the moment).

Yayy for books! Merry Christmas foggi! I am curious as what else you got for Christmas??

I got Flyte and Queste (the two I needed to complete the Septimus Heap series until the fourth that is), and I still have two presents from my friends but we are exchanging gifts tonight...but I am sure they are not books :P...

Have a great day everyone!

#2 -- Oh all right! ;-)

I got a pair of jeans and a nice warm sweater, the DVD of Enchanted, nice new heavy-duty cookie sheets, a decorative nutcracker, and more chocolate than I think I will ever be able to eat! Also gift cards to Home Depot, Applebees, and Bob Evans. ETA: Oh, and of course the wonderful Snape poster and Sorcerer's Stone DVD from ejj from the gift exchange.

Sophie got a ball with a battery inside that makes it roll around randomly on its own, and she loves it! She also got some treats and a rawhide chew.

I will let Espy tell you about his gifts himself. :-)

None other than the Bronte collection I got from Bella for the gift exchange. But I did get the dvd of Julie and Julia.

I didn't get any books, but I did get a Snuggie. Which comes with a booklight, which is cool. Plus I got a new set of knitting needles - very nice ones.

My husband really knows what I like.

Well, as for books...

I got An Abundance of Katherines from Foggi and Fantasy Worlds (Probably not the right touchstone) From Suge as my secret Santa gift. I really need to take a picture of those and post them in that thread.

For non-book gifts I got...
A Analogue to digital video converter
Mario Kart Wii
The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
The World Ends With You (DS game)
Final Fantasy IV
Mocha Frappuccino
Pokémon Cards
A hoodie
A nice button-down shirt
A new blanket
USB memory card reader
A wooden statue
A ceramic pocket-change plate/wall art piece
A trip to see Sherlock Holmes with Foggi

I'm sure that I've forgotten something, but all-in-all not a bad Christmas.

I got The Lost Files of Nancy Drew, a scrapbook thing that I can't wait to curl up with, Murder of a Sweet Old Lady and New Orleans Mourning, all from my sister. My kids got me the DVD of Planet Earth, which I can now watch ---

on our giant TV and blu-ray player, courtesy of my brother-in-law! I was stunned. I had no idea he was planning on giving us such an expensive gift. I was just happy he was going to have Christmas Eve dinner with us. The new video games the kids got are so different with a huge screen.

And I gave books all around, Alanna, a couple of Lemony Snicket books, and Death from the Skies for my oldest daugher, two by Neil Shusterman and a Yellow Submarine journal for my youngest daughter, and Jimmy Coates and The Candy Shop War for my son. And a Nero Wolfe for my mom. Now I need to finish my truffle cake and prime rib and I can go to bed with a book!

No books...yet. Still have to go to Christmas dinner at my granddad's and then celebrate with my mom's side tomorrow.

I did get a $25 gift card to Borders and a green LED reading light. And we got my dad a Sony Reader and cover with light and gift card for ebooks. I might just borrow it sometime...

I also got clothes, boots, a stuffed panda, a hamster cage, HBP on DVD, a Glee CD, a Coldstone gift card, and stocking stuffers. Plus my birthday laptop was also part Christmas.

Well I am feeling quite spoiled. In addition to Carbonel King of Cats from Kerian in the gift exchange I got Carbonel and Calidor the third in the series, The Mousewife and Miss Hargreaves. Also my dear Rom gave me the Kindle so I am feeling terribly terribly spoiled today. Along with some tea (from Kerian and others), a cup, a bookmark HBP on DVD and a calendar I will not need to leave the house again.

Foggi, I just read I am the Messenger very different but I liked it. I will be curious to see what you think.

Dec 25, 2009, 7:38 pm

#12 -- Oh, I read I Am the Messenger a year or so ago, and loved it, which is why I requested it. I know this is akin to heresy, but I like I Am the Messenger better than The Book Thief -- or at least, I like it in a completely different way. I don't think I will ever reread The Book Thief (at least, not for several years), but I will probably reread I Am the Messenger.

Well let's see. compski got me Bleach 13 & Bleach 14. Mom and dad got me a $50 gift card to Barnes & Noble. Yay!

About a month ago mom and dad got me all-weather floor mats for my car. I needed them early because the factory mats were wearing out on the drivers side and it gets muddy when it rains here. So I've got to enjoy my Christmas gift early.
I also got some nice etched Mickey Mouse glasses that mom found at a flea market to go with my black and white plates that I bought myself last Christmas.

Do gifts I bought myself count? If so, I bought myself a new T.V. and a new Nancy Drew game for the computer. I also got myself the M&M Racing for the Wii.

15cmbohn
Dec 25, 2009, 11:13 pm

I love the Nancy Drew computer games - I got one of those too. Mine is Danger on Deception Island to replace a copy that got ruined a few years ago. I still haven't finished the one where Bess got kidnapped. Stupid monkeys.

I've been given these books in the last week:

The Swan Kingdom *
The Man Who Loved Books Too Much ~
I Can Has Cheezburger? ~
Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters +
an I-Owe-You-a-Book with a recommendation from someone else of a P&P comic book,
and ta-dah, a bookcase!! 5 shelves! Yey!

* From my secret santa, Maren.
~ A late birthday gift from our own Bella.
+ From my closest friend at work.

Maren of course also gave me other wonderful gifts I named and took a picture of in our holiday party thread, and MrA and Donna the marvelous card and candle. My mom made me a beautiful matching jewelry set of a bracelet, earrings, and a necklace. She also gave me the bookcase, a folding laptop table, and the new Black Eyed Peas CD. I had lost my cardigan wrap so my grandmother bought me a new cardigan and a shirt to wear with it at work both from my favorite store, and one of those soft Charlotte Russe bathrobes and pair of pajama pants. She also gave me earrings from her trip to Hawaii last month. One of my sisters gave me slippers, house socks, and the I-owe-you-a-book. My boss gave me a 12X16 framed pretty purple flower. The manager of our mall's Starbucks saw that I was having a bad day earlier this week and gave me a Christmas CD that's normally charged for for free. Slinky gave me a motor and let my ears be the first, and so far only, to hear it.

Yesterday I also got a $25 gift card for Borders from my uncle! Today I'm hoping for a book or two. I'm also hoping that my family will just give me my birthday presents already as opposed to waiting for us to celebrate the birthdays (there's like 5 now) which doesn't seem like it's going to happen. I want to know what they got me so I can buy the stuff they didn't.

My kids chipped in and bought me a Dust Devil that I will use at work (they heard me talking about needing it to clean around the computers). Monsieur got me a Garmin and I got him his annual supply of clothing items (he has a severe aversion to malls). I got a new comforter and sheet set for my son and I helped my daughter find a new scent. She chose Nina after I tried to see if they still sold L'air de Temps. Everyone was happy! I did buy a book for my daughter - The Red Necklace. She also got two H.P. calendars (I got her the one with pictures from H.P.& H.B.P.).

Right. I got a good book haul this year. Last Night in Twisted River, The Children's Book, Wagamama Cookbook, The Food and Cooking of Cambodia, Tricks of the Mind, Last Chance to See, Pleasures of the Vietnamese Table, and Planet Ape were all gifts. And then I picked up Her Fearful Symmetry for half price in Waterstones, along with the The Complete Vegetarian Cookbook which I bought with gift tokens.

Other gifts included a diary, jewellery stand, stripey toe-socks, gloves, a brooch, bath stuff, a kitchen herb garden (cool!) and some pjs. I did very well, and am very lucky.
