Much colder here than it was this weekend, but only a fine dusting of snow.

8katelisim
Dec 28, 2009, 12:42 pm

Only 3 inches! . . .I'm jealous! From the 24th to yesterday we here in MN got between 12-21 inches. On Christmas the snowbanks were just a little bit over my knees (and I'm 5'6)! Then it got to 34 and rained on top of all that snow--so we now have ice-banks and completely frozen roads :(

9pollysmith
Dec 28, 2009, 6:49 pm

well kate, you can keep all that, OK? I'm happy with three inches

Catching up on our bit of weather
Christmas Eve: snow begins
Christmas Day: still snowing, we have 4 inches.
Dec. 26: About 4 inches, on top of an inch of ice. We are stuck at home. No big deal.
Dec. 27: Able to get out for church, but roads are still a bit nasty.
Dec. 28: nice weather, snow begins to melt.
Dec. 29: nice weather again, snow is almost all melted except for that which the sun doesn't hit.
Dec. 30: (about 2 a.m.) more snow. About an inch this time, but turns to rain at 6 a.m. and melts most of the snow away, including that which was left over.
Dec....well still 30: Been raining on and off all day.

14rissa

Mix of rain/freezing rain. We still have some clumps of snow in the front yard from the 7" we got on the the 18th, but we sadly haven't had any more fall. Given the current weather conditions, I am very glad we're staying in tonight...

#21 MrA:
My father pulled a similar trick on me when I was a kid. We were headed to Utah, went over some mountains, and all about the bottom of the road was completely white. He parked, my sisters and I ran out of the car, and were greeted by...salt. Lots and lots of salt. It was a salt reservoir. ;)

I'm going to be the next odd one to say no snow. Just the same old fake cold, with grey clouds gathering over the green hilltops that surround us. The hills, and later the moon, were so beautiful that I really wished I had my camera with me more than once today.

30pollysmith
Jan 3, 2010, 9:39 am

fake cold,K? What is fake cold?

31kirbyowns
Jan 3, 2010, 10:34 am

A few inches of snow with it still coming down. Church services have been cancelled. I wonder if we'll get an extra day of winter break because of this.

32jugglingpaynes
Jan 3, 2010, 12:45 pm

Fake cold is the opposite of real cold. I would say Norway is real cold at -7°C. :o)

33pollysmith
Jan 3, 2010, 12:57 pm

But how do I know what my cold is? I don't want fake cold! I insist on real all-natural cold with no artificial flavors or fillers!

34jugglingpaynes
Jan 3, 2010, 3:02 pm

I'd say real cold is anything below freezing, as opposed to frigging cold, which is anything below 0°F. Right now, we are experiencing real cold with a wind chill of frigging cold.

35MellieT
Jan 3, 2010, 3:05 pm

It is frigid outside. Nasty cold weather needs to go away :( I should have been born on the west coast where it is fake cold... I could deal with that.

36rissa
Jan 3, 2010, 6:45 pm

we're still having a mild winter. with temperatures above freezing most of the time. I hope there has at least been enough snow in the mountains, because when there isn't there's a power shortage the next summer. washington is the state of dams.

37pollysmith

We may make it a 2 day work week. There was no school yesterday because of icy roads, and we have another system coming in late tomorrow night that will do about the same thing.

41foggidawn
Jan 5, 2010, 11:03 am

I love going to places with fake cold and higher that can't imagine getting colder and walking around in a t-shirt. People look horrified at the prospect, but coming from this weather, it feels like a slice of almost summer ;)

We had an earthquake today, which isn't weather, but it's geographic still. It was a 4.1 and centered not far from my home. This one actually scared me because, rather than feeling it, I mainly got spooked hearing the roof and ceiling rumble. I couldn't figure out what it was until someone shouted "earthquake!" I'd just known it was too big for an animal, and I've never heard one of our giant tree branches come crashing on the roof before. When I got to work, they told me products had fallen off the shelves during it.

#54 - Eeek! Hope everyone and everything is okay!

Snowy here, but it's nothing surprising. It's actually a little funny that the meteorologists all said it would be a three day storm with 8-12 inches, but in reality we got 4-5 inches yesterday and it stopped late in the evening. :)

56pollysmith

#55 el:
Thanks, el! Everyone and everything's fine.

Earthquakes that we can actually feel like to occur near each other in time and location so we had another one, a 3.7, today. It was the first time I felt one at work. It was a shame no one asked me, "Is that an earthquake?" I get asked that all the time when it's just the elevator making our floor move, something for which we say is our exclusive foot massager. ;)

59kirbyowns
Jan 8, 2010, 6:07 pm

It's spitting snow again, but really not sticking. Woke up to 0 degrees this morning, and right now we're sitting at 5 degrees. School was closed again due to icy side roads. I know Tulsa closed schools yesterday and today because of the cold. They don't run bus services in a 2 mile radius around the school, so they have a lot of kids who walk to school.

Earthquakes are gregarious creatures.

It's hot here, darn hot. A bit alarming at 10am.

I might as well copy the first two sentences of my last post. Basically...spitting snow, not sticking, 5 degrees.

62jugglingpaynes

I don't understand the need to officially cancel our Bible study tomorrow morning. Wouldn't the fact that we can't get out of our driveways, etc pretty much cancel it? 76foggidawn
Feb 6, 2010, 8:56 am

Wow, 20? We're on the edge of the system, so we've gotten 2 inches so far, and will get another 1-2 before it stops today. I'm supposed to take my car to the mechanic at 10, so I just cleared and salted the driveway. The snow is over a layer of rain and slush, so it's really nasty to deal with and I'm sure the roads are slippery. I'm calling the mechanic first to make sure they are still open. . . .

77foggidawn
Feb 9, 2010, 8:39 am

79kirbyowns
Feb 9, 2010, 9:18 am

We had lots of snow (about 7-10 inches) yesterday, but not much of it would stick. It was that huge flaky stuff that is so pretty to watch. Schools all around us are closed because of icy roads, but not us. We have more coming on Thursday, and the beginning of next week.

80foggidawn
Feb 9, 2010, 9:31 am

We got heavy, wet snow over night (about 3", I think). Then it turned to sleet and ice, so the snow is getting a crunchy top layer that makes it really hard to clear off. It's supposed to change to rain this afternoon, but then ice again tonight and snow tomorrow. Yuck.

81MellieT
Feb 9, 2010, 6:21 pm

We are supposed to get another 18-24" here through tonight and into tomorrow. Not Happy about it...

82rissa
Feb 9, 2010, 7:21 pm

84picolina

I'm thinking it's weird how nice the weather's been these days. I mean, it's cold, in the low 10s maybe, but it's not as freezing as it should be. I'm not complaining! But it's just a little weird.

85MDLady
Feb 9, 2010, 9:17 pm

87foggidawn

97elbakerone
Feb 10, 2010, 12:53 pm

We got a bunch of snow, but the weirder natural phenomenon was the earthquake that woke me up at 4 am.

And yes, I am in Illinois.

It was a pretty small one (3.8) about 40 miles from where I live - no damages or casualties reported - but it's still very startling to have the occasional shake up in the Midwest!

98katelisim
Feb 10, 2010, 1:53 pm

MrA: I prefer to think of it as the freezer burn of the natural world

We've been somewhat mild. . . We got around 4-6 inches last weekend, but that's not too much considering most of our other snowfalls. Today we started at 7 degrees, but the last week or two it's been in the upper teens/lower twenties. I'm just glad it isn't negative 50 like last year :D

99pollysmith

It's scorching hot over here...They have been the hottest days in a while, I am scared to think of the temperatures during Easter (the hottest time of year here)

It's still below freezing--think we are hitting mid to upper 20s-- but the sun is soooooo warm that there are huge puddles on the ground :D

Though, I won't like them when they turn to ice overnight, just nice to see some sign of warmth coming

We had a misty mild day that turned the snow slushy and made the ice more slippery. The kind of weather thats hard on creaky joints

Snowing--started this morning, school was let out at 10:30. It took me twice as long to get home. We should get several inches, which will make for quite a mess, as it seldom snows here.

^Definitely MN :)
The sun has been so bright and warm! So close to spring. I won't fool myself this year though, there is always a snowstorm in March before spring actually gets going

We had rain last Friday but nothing but sunny skies since. Early Saturday morning, I was treated to a slight glow in the eastern sky with a thin crescent moon. It made me realize that it's been a while since I've seen a moon because of all the clouds we've had this winter.

Oh, Kirby, I'm sad for you. Is it gone yet? If we get any more snow here I will cry. It was warm and sunny today and I just don't think I could handle giving that up!

Mar 27, 2010, 10:57 pm

Just reading this now. Lefty, it was gone after 2 days. We had some seriously warm (60-70 degrees) days right after the snow. Then it rained for 2 days, then it was warm again. Today it was nice and sunny for 1/2 the day. The wind was bad, but it was still pretty. Spring is here. Hopefully no more snow will come, since we've had such a weird Winter will more snow than we've seen in 10 years. I remember when I was a kid that we would get lots of snow like this year, but it hasn't happened in about 10 years. Summer will probably be an extremely hot one. What we're watching for now is all the tornadoes again. Our state has already seen 4 this month.

So, for the last few years there has been blizzard like conditions on my bday--March 31. This year it's forcasted to be in the 70s. I want to be excited, but it might jinx it. . .

Lightning + Thunder (really loud) + 2nd floor + 24 8-year old girls + end of the day/week = Well, I'll let you guess on that one.

We'll take boring right now. The last couple of days have been tragic for my state. Lots of damage and several deaths due to tornados. Luckily for my family it was south of us.

Today is sunny with a scattering of clouds.

Bad storms last night. We had to spend a couple of hours in the hallway for them to pass. We're supposed to get another round today.

We're hot now. . . supposed to get around 90 on Sunday. I don't like. Just to recap and fully convey the ridiculousness that is Minnesota's weather: We get snow and 90s in the same month.
