Glad to see you back for another year!

Hi browngirl! I'm glad to see you back with us in 2010, too. I'll definitely participate in the African Diaspora Reading Challenge, and I'll almost certainly join the South Asian Author Challenge. I'll post info on both blogs shortly. Thanks for sharing that information!

Hi browngirl--I will definitely be following the African Diaspora Reading Challenge--I want to read more African/South American/Caribbean books this year. Thank you for the list of suggestions on your blog.

#7: Looks intriguing. Nice review as usual. Thanks for the recommendation.

That one does sound interesting. Have you read any of Roma Tearne's books, browngirl? I read Brixton Beach last year, which was also set in Sri Lanka and London, and I'll probably read Mosquito and/or Bone China this year.
10browngirl
Thanks alcottacre!
Kidzdoc, I have not read her books, but I just added all three to my tbr. Brixton Beach isn't published in the U.S. so I guess I'll have to get it from The Book Depository or hope it's released domestically. All three sound great and I want to read more about the Sinhalese and Tamil civil war.

> book #2 looks very intriguing! i will be following your reading challenges along the year -- your list is a promising source of new authors to watch and themes to explore!

Nice review again, browngirl. I am with deebee - I will be looking at your list again this year for new authors to watch.

#15: That one looks like a very powerful book. My local library has both Sugar and its follow up This Bitter Earth so I will be looking for them both. Thanks for the review!
17browngirl
Thanks for stopping everyone. I think you'll all enjoy the 3 books I've read so far immensely. I've gotten lucky starting with some fantastic reads for 2010. Some upcoming reads are Wench: A Novel, The Calligrapher's Daughter, and Searching For Whitopia. Oh, and Daughters of the Stone for a reading group discussion in February.

Great review of Sugar--it looks like a compelling read.
20alcottacre
#19: I need to read that one. Thanks for the recommendation.
22arubabookwoman
Wench sounds fascinating. From your review, it appears that Tatawa (not sure if I've carried that over correctly from your review) was a real place. Is that true?
23alcottacre
#21: I have already checked, and Wench is not available at my local library yet. I cannot wait until they get that one.
24browngirl
#22 ABW, yes, Tawawa House was a real resort that was eventually sold to the AME church and became part of Wilberforce University- the oldest, private HBCU. How ironic!
#23 alcottacre, I hope they get it in soon. I think you'll enjoy it.

35alcottacre
#34: Have you read anything else by Emecheta? If so, what would you recommend? I read The Joys of Motherhood a couple of years ago.
37browngirl
@alcottacre, I haven't read anymore by Emecheta. I do have The Slave Girl and have heard Second-Class Citizen is good as well.
38alcottacre
#37: OK, thanks!
39arubabookwoman
Emecheta herself has had a very interesting and inspiring life.

#40: I am especially interested in the Deborah Gray White book. I also note that she wrote another book along the same lines, Too heavy a load: Black women in defense of themselves, 1894-1994. Do you know anything about that one?
Nice reviews as usual, BrownGirl!

Oh. my. Another book blog to read! The 75 book challenge is really expanding the length of my TBR list. (It's not a pile, it wouldn't fit in the house.) Thanks for posting here BrownGirl.
43browngirl
#41: That title sounds vaguely familiar so I'll have to look into that one. And thank you.
#42: Thank you and yes, I have a tbr "abyss". :P
