On my 75 books thread I vowed to increase the size of Mt TBR, so it makes perfect sense that I found my way over here :)

My goal is to move 24 books of the shelf this year. I will certainly add twice that number this week alone to the virtual Mt TBR, but seeing the already acquired books physically off the must read/review shelf will be exciting!

I've already started with Red Scarf Girl.

1. Red Scarf Girl
2. Graceling
3. Feed
4. The Blue Tattoo
5. The Lightning Thief
6. Fever 1793
7. Silverstein and Me: A Memoir
8.
9.

I'm with you. I love that you've embraced Mt TBR and vowed to increase it. We're just here to make a little room for the new books!

Delighted to move Red Scarf Girl to the finished pile. So glad I finally read this memoir.

Moving on to a book that kept getting pushed aside for class and professional reading, Graceling.

Class is over, so now I can catch up on my just-for-fun reading!

Finished Graceling back in January, maybe my expectations were too high, but this one fell flat.

Just finished Feed, love this book (and I had high expectations).

Started reading The Blue Tattoo: the Life of Olive Oatman this afternoon.

So exciting to see some progress, and to read these books I have been dreaming about for months!

Hello MrsBond, I too am looking forward to hearing your reaction to The Blue Tattoo: The Life of Olive Oatman. I am very interested in books about the American West, in fact it's one of my categories in the 1010 Challenge.

The Blue Tattoo: The Life of Olive Oatman by Margot Mifflin, 4 stars
Olive Oatman and her family were travelling west - first to find religious Utopia, then gold. The family's adventure came to an abrupt end when their wagon was attacked by a small group of Indians. The only survivors were Olive, here sister Mary Ann, and brother Lorenzo. There are wide and varied tales of what happened to Olive over the next 5 years. Mifflin attempts to find the truth, relying on Oatman's own words, public records and other material. What is left is a story of a girl with ties to two worlds, but no firm place in either. An engaging read, The Blue Tattoo brings to light not just the life of a single girl, but also life in the 'old west.'

I really enjoyed this book. It read as though the author was conversationally sharing her research on the topic (in a very organized way).

Me too - I saw it at B&N and was very tempted, but only had money for other things that day.

This recent recent accomplishment made its way off the dusty shelf with a lot of noise from my tween daughter, who has been insisting that I read The Lightning Thief for years. Now that I've read it, I understand why she was so persistent -- this is a good book. Made the mistake of reading the teaser chapter for book 2 included at the end, will begin reading The Sea of Monsters as soon as I find it on the bookshelf.

One library sale find and one arc off the shelf!

Fever 1793, Laurie Halse Anderson, 4 stars
Fictional account of the yellow fever outbreak that struck Philadelphia in the fall of 1793, told from the perspective of a teenage girl who witnesses various effects and impacts of the illness on family, friends, and her community. Chapters begin with short quotes from letters, pamphlets and other accounts of the time.

Silverstein and Me: A Memoir, Marv Gold, 2.5 stars
This is the author's memoir detailing his relationship with Shel Silverstein. There is nothing truly extraordinary revealed, the book provides some slightly interesting detail to the outline found in the appendix. Not a painful read, but not exactly the most exciting either. (arc)

I also enjoyed Fever. I found the information about the role the blacks played to be particularly interesting.

>14 mamzel: I noticed that as well, one of the many not-so-small pieces of history that are sometimes overlooked.

I just checked your blog, added several titles to Mt TBR based on the reviews there!

Thanks for dropping by. It's certainly encouraging to know womeone has taken a look at it. I haven't worked on it enough lately. Maybe this summer...
