So, I've been sharing these on Twitter and Facebook, but I realized that I hadn't linked them here yet, so anyone who wants to see what Russia was like from my P.O.V. can check out my albums on Photobucket. There's even a picture of me hidden someone in there with all my unruly-bearded glory.

Hmm, that's weird. The links should just send you to my Photobucket albums, not a slide show of any kind.

I had no problem. You got some great images. I never would have guessed the Church on Spilled Blood is less than 100 years old.

awesome! Thanks Espy!

Am I the only one who wonders why he needed a fan in his room? (from Base Album)

Actually, I can probably answer that. In Russian apartment buildings (like the one my parents live in) the tenants have no control over the thermostat -- it's the same for the whole building. Sometimes it can get too hot in the winter, I'm told.
Either that, or the corner of the spare room is just where the fan lives during the off season. :-)

Personally I can't sleep unless I have a fan blowing, the white noise helps put me to sleep and the fan itself of course lets me pile on the blankets. Maybe not why Espy had it, but its not unheard of. :)

Thanks for the info foggi! I should have known that since we have friends in Ekaterinsberg right now and they said the apartment was warmer than their home in NY! It's so funny too, because some of espy's pictures are the same as ones our friends sent us. Maybe they passed each other sightseeing!

So cool! Thanks for sharing!
JP- LOL That's funny considering the size of the area involved. If someone went to DC you wouldn't be surprised if everyone had a picture of the White House but in a place as big as Russia? pretty neat

Neat Espy. I have always wanted to see the Hermitage especially after seeing the film Russian Arc

Awesome, Espy! Thanks for sharing!
Other countries have histories much richer in artistry than ours, don't you think? We have nothing like the paintings in the Church on Spilled Blood. No Hermitage-looking buildings. Our country can be so utilitarian. When people sight see in the States, they go to the Grand Canyon, not often to something we built.

History is relative. You are much older than us (architecture-wise, anyway).

Wow, Espy, the pictures are phenomenal! I've always wanted to go to Russia. It looks like a fairy land. Everything looks breathtakingly ethereal, like you would need a magic portal to get there, not a plane ticket. Thanks for sharing!

*wishes for a magic portal between here and Russia . . . or here and just about anywhere, really*

Anything? Anything? If we get enough brains involved we can do this, Foggi!
