Discussion Question 5 **SPOILERS**

5. Clarissa's movements through London, along with the comings and goings of other characters, are given in some geographic detail. Do the patterns of movement and the characters' intersecting routes establish a pattern? If so, how do those physical patterns reflect important internal patterns of thought, memory, feelings, and attitudes? What is the view of London that we come away with?

Am I allowed to be honest and say that unless I have a map to peruse, I really cannot answer this one? :-)

Since it's that kind of a question, yeup...I confess that I don't know what the hell the writer of the question had in mind. And I HAVE a map. With Clarissa's route plotted on it. But I don't know enough about London to know what they're on about...seems to me Clarissa's spent her whole life within a few miles of the Palace, so it's an indicator of her status maybe?

I've have (once) been in London and seen the Buckingham Palace and the Big Ben (and not many of the other high lights), so I should have a feeling about the area where Clarissa walks around. But I have no idea how to answer this question.

The view of London I have after the book, is of a slightly crowded city, with busses driving around (those red one ;) ), some regular traffic, and some shopping streets, some silent parks. And somehow you can everywhere hear the Big Ben (so Clarissa didn't see a lot of London).

I guess I thought that she just stayed in her society part of town, because that was what she considered important. (But I have never been to London.)
