Right now I am doing the CAHSEE workbooks I got. I figured I have them, why not use them? I'm doing the language arts one which is really easy and I will do the math soon, just to make sure I remember the stuff. I'm a little scared about the essay though. :/

I'm sitting in front of my computer, trying to gather up the energy to get up and get ready for bed.

I'm between hemming a bridal gown and getting ready to go proctor an SAT. Switching activities always means checking LT, of course.

Wasting some time before I leave to do some laundry at my parents. I'm almost done, one more thread to read and then I'm out of here.

Noodling around on LT & Fb, watching my husband play a Wii game, and listening to Rex "drum" with a wooden spoon and plastic bowl.

Stalling. I'm checking some stuff online but should be eating a late breakfast, washing laundry, and getting ready to going somewhere tonight.

Also stalling. I need to do, well, stuff. I don't want to do stuff, but it is stuff that must be done. Sigh...

I am making my way through LT threads, half listening to my youngest son and a family friend play a game on PS3,and Debating about cutting the cheesecake I bought for my daughter's bday.

Fighting a lurking headache and contemplating making a cup of tea and either starting another book or watching a movie. Watching a movie takes less mental effort, but I might fall asleep in the middle of it, and waking up disoriented at midnight is the last thing I need on the night of the Daylight Savings Time time-change.
12biblioholic29
Just finished a blog post. Three chapters in to SS/PS! :)

Just finished watching Inkheart. Pretty good movie I should probably read the book

Right now, I'm writing an reply to this thread about what I'm doing right now. ;)
Okay okay okay... I'm holding a book in my lap, wondering why it's not showing up in a search in my library, because I swear, I already added this book! Argh!

Ack! I completely forgot about daylight savings time, thanks for reminding me Foggi. . . At least now I won't be late for work :)

Wishing that daylight savings time wasn't kicking my butt because I really want to get more coffee into me before going on a hike. Also thinking about laundry. And not knitting, even though I put on Mythbusters to facilitate same.

Sort of trying to work, really need to get serious and get a lot done today.
Sort of watching Rob Roy, though I checked around and apparently they messed with history quite a bit on this one. Still, Liam Neeson and sword fights--what's not to like?
Really need to take a shower and put in the contact lenses--work doesn't get serious until I have my eyes in.

Taking a break from organizing my bookshelves. Right now about half of the books that go in shelves in the back room here are in piles on the floor. I can't finish straightening up this room until I finish shelving, but I'm terribly prone to procrastination lately.

I've found the best thing to do with tofu is to buy flavored tofu. Barring that, you've got to go with really strong flavors, ginger and lemongrass is my favorite combo. Personally, I always buy extra-firm and stir-fry or pan-sear it, which I think helps texturally as well. :)
105biblioholic29
And while I was typing that and trying to find the brand of tofu I like (apparently not easy to find on the internet) you figured it out for yourself. Oh well. :)
107LadyN
Always grateful for a tip though bib! thanks :-)
I think the texture is the thing I dislike the most. But the frying certainly seems to have helped with that.

I'm watching, for the hundredth time or so, the "Hush" episode of Buffy. Love this bit of dialogue--when Anya (the former vengeance demon) artlessly asks Giles a personal question, he replies, "Yes, that is absolutely the most appalling thing you could have said."
Much as I love the dialogue, the episode kicks its brilliance up a notch when everyone stops talking for more than half of the hour. Communication hardly stops . . . but what's interesting, among other things, is how much the idea of talking and what one can and can't tell others is a theme of the episode even before the "hush" comes.
Yeah, I worship Joss Whedon. So?

>197 OodsAteMyDingo: BookMooch and PaperBackSwap are websites for book trading. I only use BookMooch, so I'm not sure if PBS works exactly the same, but the idea is that you list books you are willing to give away and send them out (paying for postage, but media mail is usually the cheapest); you get a point for sending out the book and you can use your points to ask for books from other people. I haven't bought more than five or six books in the last year, I don't think, because I've gotten mine from BookMooch (about 80 of those). You also actually get a tenth of a point for each book you list and each book you acknowledge receiving, so you end up with more points than books you actually send out.
What I'm doing now: watching the Colbert Report and resolving that I will never, ever play the new Scrabble version that allows the use of proper names. It's just wrong.

209katelisim
In general I don't like that new Scrabble rule, however, we like to play themed boards. So within the themes, we allow that. We really like Seussical boards, where we make up words--and their definitions. But for regular Scrabble it should stay how it was. . . how are they defending not having a word attached? Obviously everyone would just get the multipliers right away, but that's just lame and eliminates strategy.
Right now I'm waiting for the hold to lift on my registration (time layering) so I can register for classes. So, I'm hoping nothing fills up in the next hour.

218RandomActofMuse
I like to keep my paste on overnight, so I always put the henna on close to bedtime and then seal it so it stays put, then gauze and tape so any errant flakes don't get in my sheets. Works well, but only if the henna is completely dry. Otherwise it mushes and smudges.

Right now I'm trying to avoid looking at Missie's test prep workbook. It's staring at the back of my head from its position on the couch. The thing is Missie is in the last hundred-ish pages of her book. I hate being interrupted during the last part of a book I'm reading. I imagine so does Missie. But I should make sure she reviews. But I know she knows most of the material. But she needs to understand that life stops for no one (or no book) and this would be a fine example of that. But the test is still three weeks away. When else can you ignore everything else in life except while you are a kid? BUT I have been sitting here over analyzing this for an hour and that darn workbook is still breathing down my neck.
Maybe I should put it in drawer where it can't see me...

Coffee has never helped me. If anything, it puts me to sleep because it's warm and relaxing. Thankfully, I am very good at falling asleep. I rarely lay awake for a nap or for the night for longer than about 3 minutes.
255ejj1955

So lefty, I have to ask. Do you get berated by well-meaning but misguided family/friends/neighbors for doing things like moving dirt while you are in your delicate condition?
I ask because when I was pregnant with catbastet, I got scolded for climbing on a chair to put up a bulletin board. Keep in mind I juggled (including under-the-leg tricks) up until the night I went into labor. But people thought I would fall off a chair. A sturdy school chair that was built to outlast generations of students.
Mem, relax about the tests. Give her the workbook a week before. She'll be fine. The test is only a tool to figure out where she has weaknesses. And to learn how to fill in little bubbles. She'll be fine.

Ejj, I am soooo bad at all nighters! Sorry you had to have one!
JP, my immediate family is well-informed enough not to nag me for things like moving dirt. I'm running a marathon in a week and a half, after all. At first some people were trying to say I shouldn't be running at all but I quickly tell them all the many benefits of continued exercise during pregnancy, boring most of them to tears because I find such things fascinating and incorrectly assume everyone else does too, so they leave me alone. :) And for moving dirt, when someone knows I'm about to run a marathon, moving dirt seems more akin to baking cookies.

>254 lefty33: That's pretty much the exact opposite of me. I'm a bit of an insomniac. So, it takes me forever to fall asleep. Then I wake up a bajillion times throughout the night. I think I average between 3 and 5 hours of sleep a night. Usually, it's not too much of a problem, especially when I'm being productive. Just this last couple of weeks it been more like 2-4 hrs. I guess an hour or two makes all the difference.
259ejj1955
If I weren't such a procrastinator, it wouldn't be necessary to work all night sometimes. But I am, so . . .
>258 katelisim: I can't help but wonder if you might have something that interferes with your sleep. Most people know about caffeine but there are a lot of other possibilities, including some prescription meds (one blood pressure med I was on for a while kept me from sleeping and made me depressed, too) and even something I never would have thought of, the B vitamins I take (I happened to hear some doctor on a radio program mention they could be a problem, so I started taking them in the morning).
I'm just saying . . . sleep is so important, it's hard to accept when it's not good most of the time.

I also have trouble falling and staying asleep, lately, I also have been having vivid dreams, some of which wake me up in a panic.
261ejj1955
I almost never remember my dreams but had a very strange one last night. The me now (age 54) knocked on the door of my childhood home and went into the kitchen to find my mother and two sisters and some other people, I don't remember who, all there. I have no idea how I explained my presence to them but remember thinking I couldn't tell them who I really was!
262katelisim
>259 ejj1955: Well, I usually don't drink caffeine after 3pm unless I know I need to stay awake all night. And I don't take any medications or the like. My mom says I've been like this since I was little--maybe around age 4? But I was always able to wake up in the morning without being tired and crabby, so my parents didn't think it was much of a problem.
I always have extremely vivid dreams--that are bizarre. I tell them to my friends, and most of the time they'll remember them longer; I guess I'm accustomed to the bizarre :P

So far I've reshelved and straightened 2 booktrucks of books, ran some reading program statistics, made lunch arrangements (most important), cataloged a few new books, am getting ready to weed some books, and send my collection data off to a book vendor to be analyzed (tells me which books need to be weeded & the average age of the collection--currently it stands at about 1989, yikes). Amazing how much can be accomplished w/o those pesky little students lurking about, wanting to check out books! lol

I'm just going a bit crazy. I'm used to being so overwhelmed and that I never felt like I could catch up because once I would, the week began a new and everything started all over again: the white rabbit. It was relaxing at first not running on a schedule like that, but now all I can think of is that girl doing my job. I had loved my job and all the responsibilities that came with it. I want to be doing those things. Sorry if I was offensive. I'm a bit sensitive right now. I hope you enjoy your day.
316ejj1955
I know that feeling, K, and it will pass. Unfortunately, you'll start getting used to having complete control over your schedule and you'll plan how you want to spend your days . . . then you'll get another job and that will all disappear!
317jugglingpaynes
Hey K, I was just wishing to be bored instead of busy! I'm sorry if it made you feel worse. I understand how you feel. Some have said I purposely put too much on my plate because I need to be busy all the time. I insist it's because I have no control over my life and schedule as a mother.
You just need something to keep you busy. Didn't you do the writing thing back in November? Maybe now would be a good time to take it out again and start you own every day of writing. Or watch a funny movie, or reread a book you love. I'm sure you will find a good use of your time!

302 We didn't get to the Philly Zoo, the Penn Relays are going on and we thought traffic would be bad. We decided to go to the Brandywine Zoo, a small zoo in Wilmington, DE. So we joined them at the other park and sat around enjoying the beautiful day, and a sleeping 2 1/2 year old. It was a wonderful day.

The wedding is still a year and a half away; it's definitely not too late to be creative. Our biggest issue with food is picky eaters. A third of the guest list is his Indian family, most of whom are practicing Hindus and strict vegetarians/vegans who won't touch American food. Another third is my American family who is suspicious of Indian food, plus a few who more open-minded but can't handle spice. The rest are our friends, most of whom are pretty much open to anything.
We have plans for a wedding weekend going here, trying to cram the usual week-long Indian wedding into three days. So far the days are pretty full, but maybe we could consider a late-morning Sunday wedding and an appetizer-heavy lunch. That way we could include something from each side without worrying about people going hungry or breaking the bank.
Thanks for the input!

SRedRose- Please take it from someone who has done the wedding thing twice...You can't please everyone. You can't really even please a few so don't try. 8) It's your wedding, serve your favorite foods and your soon to be husband's favorite foods. As long as there is a bit for each group, no one should be rude enough to comment. If they do comment, well, they are rude and therefore you can ignore them. 8) *And if all else fails, remember you can always yell,er say, "I am the BRIDE and this is what I want!" **That also works when you are pregnant, "I am pregnant and I want it." Works every time. 8)

I've got to agree with MEM, you're opinion is the one that matters in the end. Trust me when I say you don't want to look back on your wedding and feel like it expressed everyone but you.
On a related note, some food ideas to consider: if you get married in the morning, do brunch, provide nan and a curry or two in addition to a couple of "normal" brunch dishes. The other option is to do a cocktail reception, hors d'oeuvres only.

I'm considering writing the screenwriter and the producer of NCIS to get their facts straight. This is the first time I've ever been truly annoyed with the way they portrayed something on the show.
One of the characters had henna done while on vacation. In his vacation photos, the henna was black. Now, he never SAID "black henna." He only called it henna. Throughout the show, he's itchy where he had the henna done. And at the end of the episode, he's got a black stain, welts, and bumps (all telltale signs of a PPD burn, which you don't get from natural henna) and he comments, "it turns out I'm really allergic to henna."
Things like that cause problems for people who provide ACTUAL henna services, and it irks me somewhat that writers and producers don't bother to check into things like that.
*ahem* Ok. I'll get off my soapbox now. Sorry!

What is a "PPD burn"?
351RandomActofMuse
A PPD burn is a kind of chemical burn. PPD is the primary ingredient in black hair dye, and it can be dangerous, even deadly, when left on the skin for long periods of time, as is the case with henna tattoos. It can cause welts and scarring that can be permanent.
It's rare for someone to have a reaction to natural henna, but anyone can be allergic to so-called "black" henna, which is usually henna laced with the black hair dye to make the stain black. It's very unsafe. By showing that on the show and calling it henna when it was clearly not, the producers and writers are misleading people into believing that real henna is dangerous.

I read the posts above which reminded me...I also have trouble sleeping. I stay up late and wake up early. It takes me awhile to go to sleep unless I'm reeeally tired so reading helps significantly. And it doesn't matter how late I stay up, the latest I can sleep in is about 11:30am, if I'm lucky. But that includes briefly waking up several times throughout the morning. Although I don't like sleeping because I feel like I could be doing useful, productive things during that time.

#354 - I get horrible insomnia sometimes too. It starts with thinking about lots of random stuff and eventually turns into thinking about how annoying it is that I can't stop thinking and just sleep!
Anyways, right now I'm working on lining up some author interviews for my new book blog! *happy dance*
Maybe this should go over on the Good News thread, but I'm 200+ messages behind on that one so I'll just spill the beans here for now. I started a book blog http://herbookself.blogspot.com and along with sharing reviews, I want to highlight some indie authors whose books I like and I just got in touch with the writer of a really cute mystery novel I read last month who agreed to do an email interview with me!
I'd love to get some more feedback on the blog too so if anyone wants to take a look at it and/or follow along, I'd love to hear what you all think!
(And going all the way back to #325 - K, you should totally start blogging again! What's your blog address? And for that matter, who else is blogging around here that I don't know about?)

Watching The Marriage Ref with Mom and Sister, then bedtime. Babysitting at 7:30 in the morning, and there is no such thing as "sitting down" when she's here. Insomnia really needs to quit being my friend.

Just found out that I got into the University Honors Program at Cal State Fullerton!! -so excited- :D

Congrats, Veta, that's great!!
Watching TV and catching up on LT here. After just a couple of days of not being on much, I feel really behind.
I'm also thinking about where I can go now that my car is fixed. The feeling of freedom is almost overwhelming!

#355: Congrats! I've had several authors of books I've reviewed visit and comment on my other blog, but somehow I've never actually considered that any of them might agree to an interview. Very cool El!

I am at Curves waiting for someone to show up to exercise. Gotta love Fridays when the weather is great, so people go play rather than exercise.

I'm watching Criminal Minds (I love that show!) and listening to my youngest daughter & two of her friends playing in my living room. (they are louder than my tv)

I did the Donate Life run/walk today which was great. Went to a BBQ and rode in a sweet light blue Nova, all in all, a very good day. Now i'm just catching up on facebook and LT :)

Hoping I can finish my homework quickly and then go to sleep soon after dinner. I'm tired! I was very busy over the weekend. And I had a sleepover on Saturday where I went to sleep at 4:30am and woke up at 9:00am.

I was going to say that right now I'm thinking about how I manage to keep overfilling my schedule, but then I read what FantasyGirl2 wrote and now I'm thinking of cookie brownies.
I baked the first of this months cakes today. I'll try to get a picture up later...tomorrow....maybe late tomorrow.
Geesh, how does my schedule keep getting away from me?

Watching NCIS with Mom & Sister, and wondering what's gotten into my dog. He's acting sick - mopey, lazy, disinterested in food. He eats things he shouldn't eat sometimes; I hope he didn't eat something that requires a vet visit. I can't afford for him to be sick right now.

Catching up on LT... Insomnia kicking in. Been falling asleep late and can only seem to sleep 2 hours at a time :(. Thinking about starting a new book blog, mine has gone to trash cause I couldn't keep up with it before. But I have many many books to review so I have to get something up and running!
386VetaTorres
Trying to keep calm, tomorrow I have my AP English test. I haven't exactly studied... I've attended review sessions and I figure if i haven't learned it this year I won't learn it in a night. But I feel fairly confident since I've been doing well in class...

Making cake bites. Because the cake fell apart when I was taking it out of the pan. If my springform pan hadn't been leaky, this would not have been a problem!
Yes, the cake was cool before I tried to remove it, and yes, the springform pan was properly assembled. It's just old and I'm pretty certain it's time to replace it.

I am about to go to the library to work the weekly book sale. I get to sit there for three hours reading, unless someone requires me to take their money, make change, or give them a plastic bag for their books. As volunteer gigs go, it's not difficult. Sometimes I stop reading and just watch the people, especially the little ones coming from story time. They are cute.

I am writing my last 2 papers of the semester! So close to being done. :D :D :D

Waiting for my mom to pick a movie to watch. We recently finished watching the Graham Norton Show and before that, Doctor Who.

Just finished "Did You Hear About the Morgans" with my sister while house-sitting for our aunt. Aunt's cat is enjoying our company - I think. At the very least, he isn't running and hiding behind the couch like he usually does when company's over.

**sighs** polly, thanks for the heads up!
I'm going through LT posts before I start back on my SS reading. The boys were so noisey last night I couldn't concentrate on it.
