I've just started reading Jonathan Harr's The Lost Painting. It's a non-fiction work about the search for Caravaggio's lost painting The Taking of Christ, but it's written in a narrative style that makes it easy to read.
I'm very fond of Caravaggio paintings - my favorite The Cardsharps even garners a mention in the first few chapters! But I know very little about the artist (aside from his legendary rowdiness) or his work. I've been thoroughly engrossed in this book and the search for the painting.
Has anyone else read this? What did you think?
Or does anyone have any recommendations for a novel about Caravaggio? It seems like his tempestuous life would lend itself well to fiction.

I haven't read it but your reference to it made me check it out and now it's been added to my TBR pile. Thank you.
My favourite art history book to date is The Agony and the Ecstasy about Michelangelo - I loved it and wish I had read it before I visited Florence.

Arcona - the last time I read The Agony and the Ecstasy was during high school - I should definitely pick that one back up again!
