To revive this group...

I read somewhere that, during Guy Fawke's Night 1679, there was an effigy of the Pope's surgeon holding, among other things, an urinal.

Can anybody explain why an urinal? I tried to find something on Google without any success.

Thanks in advance.

The only reference I can find was a report by a Benjamin Harris in Sussex of the burning of a Popish effigy. Nothing about a urinal though. http://www.wilsonsalmanac.com/guy_fawkes_day.html

Thanks, varielle. I had already found this info that an effigy of the Pope's was burnt in place of that of Fawkes's in the years of the Popish Plot. But the Web page you mention might provide other interesting links. I will investigate.
