7) Unaccustomed Earth - Jhumpa Lahiri

Absolutely beautiful! Very well written. It´s a collection of short stories. The characters are Indian immigrants in the US or children of immigrants.

I will definitely add more of Lahiri´s work to my TBR list of 2010!

8) Middlesex Jeffrey Eugenides

I really liked this book! The story is told throug the protagonist's voice. It's the story of her grandparent's immigrating from Greece to the US. Further on it's a family chronicle, focusing on the events that led to her heredity of a special genetic trait.

It's warm and humerous, but not sentimental.

9) Things Fall Apart - Chinua Achebe

10) Interpreter of Maladies - Jhumpa Lahiri

This collection of short stories was delightful. It is elegantly written with good characters. I still found Unaccustomed Earth a bit better.

12) Half of a Yellow Sun - Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

I liked this book. But frankly I was a little bit dissapointed. I don´t think the characters were really good, except for the servant boy Ugwu.

Sometimes it felt a bit shallow. But still, it´s a quick and entertainig read. It´s also interesting in terms of reading about the biafran war at the end of the sixtie´s.

15) Buzz Aldrin, hvor ble det av deg i alt mylderet? by Johan Harstad

This book is the first book I read by a Norwegian author for a long time. It was recommenden to me by my brother and father. The story centers around a young man who travels to the Faroe Islands after being dumped by his girlfriend and losing his job.

16) Seierherrene by Roy Jacobsen

I´m continuing to read in Norwegian. I´ve wanted to read this book for many years now. it´s considered to be a modern classic in Norwegian literature.

The book is split in two. The first part is set in the northern pasrt of Norway, in a small coastal society in th 1930´s . Martha is the young girl which the story spins around. The second part of the book is set in Oslo in the 1960´s. Martha is a mother of three boys. The youngest, Rogern, is the protagonist and voice of the story.

I really liked this book. It´s a classic family chronicle, but brings up a lot of socialist themes as well. The second part resembles Lars Saabye Christensen´s Beatles.

17) A Suitable Boy by Vikram Seth

This is an enormous book, which took me la long time to finish. It´s a must read for all who enjoys Indian literature. The story is filled to the brim with well drawn characters. We follow four families for about two years. The four families are connected to each other in different ways.

One of this year´s best!

18) The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

I didn´t like this book that much. It´s ok, and a quick read. I found the narrator annoying.

21) Havfruen by Camilla Läckberg

This is a criminal novel. i usually don´t like crime, but since I´ve been stuck in Kampala with a high fever and a small selection of books, I thought I should give it a go.

I found it entertainig. It is a bit too simple for my liking, but I guess it´s a good criminal fiction.

24) The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri

I was in fact disappointed with this book. My expectations were high, as I loved the two other books I´ve read by Lahiri this year. This book is the first novel I read by Lahiri, and I feel that she masters the short story genre better.

Although not nearly as good as Interpreter of Maladies and Unaccustomed Earth, it´s still enjoyable and entertaining.
