Dear all,

The latest issue of SFX, a UK science fiction magazine, has this month employed the services of a certain Sir Terry Pratchett as their guest editor.

The issue number is 196, the cover date is July 2010 and the publication date was the 5th of May 2010.

How they got to a cover date of July when we've only just entered May I've no idea but that is what was on the cover.

In the US, the cover date is when to replace the magazine with the next issue. The less frequent the publication, the more futuristic the cover date will be.

Thanks for that. I know when I used to buy this regularily it was a standard monthly publication but I stopped buying it a few years back. I think it is still monthly though as when I see it on the shelves the covers do seem to vary every four weeks or so.

Just remembered many UK publications have gone on to a four week cycle, thereby producing 13 issues a year, but they keep the month in the cover date and add a bonus Christmas issue to reset the cover date cycles.
