I was thinking today about how some of the books I've received from moochers have to me been such incredible and beloved-treasured finds.
There was the time I was sent a copy of The Blue Bird (link), which was a favorite from my early childhood and the first book I ever forgot the title to and also the first book I had to go soliciting librarians for help with the "Once I read this story and I don't remember what it was called..." scenario, but once I relearned the title I never forgot it and then it arrived in the mail.
But it's so hard to choose! There was also the time I received a copy of The Flight of Dragons in such extraordinarily good condition that I sat at the kitchen table with the package only half-opened and petted the cover art on the dust jacket thinking, "Mine. It's mine now."
But then there was also the time that a friend shared with me her favorite childhood movie, and I researched and learned it had a companion book, and the book came up on BookMooch in time for it to be her next birthday gift, and when The Storyteller arrived and I looked through it, I fell in love with it too and gave it a way with a bit of sniffle, and then a second copy came up on BookMooch and I mooched it.
And I was wondering what were some of your favorites that you-all might have found?
ETA: *shaking fist at touchy touchstone*

Myraid, I will answer your question eventually. For now, I am staring contently at my wall of books sighing contently. And changing my mind every few moments. :-)

My favourite BookMooch find is every book I never thought would come up that was actually sent! Which is most of them! Some examples:
The Count's Number Parade, Lassie Come-Home by Eric Knight in the edition I wanted with a DJ and in good condition! Wagging Tails : An Album of Dogs by Marguerite Henry (some illustrations trigger a memory, I may have seen them in a different book before... no idea what one), Tawny by Chas Carner (initially this book was not going to be sent, but the moocher came back and did send it!), Now You See It... by Vivian Vande Velde (link), my favourite by that author! Prove Yourself a Hero by K. M. Peyton (the second try obtained the specific edition I wanted, great book!), The Perfect Ride by Lady McCrady (link) I was so happy to be reunited with this childhood favourite.
Anything by my favourite authors or those hard to find. I would love to be able to obtain the rest of the Lynn Hall books I'm missing, and others...
Also some free surprises! Like a gorgeous ex-library copy of Wild Orphan by Glen Rounds (link). I was not even expecting that!
There's so many books I can't just choose one favourite.

I am continually surprised at how many lesbian books I get through Bookmooch. I have a whole bookcase full of lesbian (and some general queer) books, 90% of which came through Bookmooch. Overall... I don't know! There's been so many that I fell over myself trying to click. "GET IT!!! NOOOOW!" (nevermind that I'm the only one on the wishlist)... nope, don't think I can pick a favorite.

>5 Danneeness: Haha, that's how I feel about Doctor Who books. I think I've gotten a good 50% of mine through BookMooch. I've gotten nicer copies elsewhere in some instances (and then put the other ones back on BM), but that's a lot of Doctor Who happiness.
7Belladonna1975
I wish I could get some Doctor Who/Torchwood Bookmooch happiness. Maybe one day....
I also got a copy of The Storyteller! It was beautiful. I have gotten many pretty hardback books from bookmooch including a few Patricia Mckillips and a few Alice Hoffmans.

5: I feel that exact same way, with lesbian and bdsm books. Seriously, BM has been HEAVEN in that regard.
Also with books about Countess Elizabeth Bathory. A good 90% of all books about her are out of print and incredibly difficult to find. I have many on my wishlist that I don't hold much hope of getting. But I've recieved... four? five?... from BookMoochers over the past few years, books that cost a fortune anywhere else, books that I really didn't think I'd ever get. (So really, it's all BM's fault that I'm so nuts about this woman)
Even so, I think the *true* treasures, from all the BM books I've recieved, are those childhood favorites that I'd been looking to reacquire for years. The first Nancy Drew book I'd ever read, a Sweet Valley mystery book that somehow never showed up in thrift stores... There have been multiple times where I have literally cried when finding a long-loved book on BookMooch. And then recieving it and being able to hold it and read it again... it's like reuniting with a long-lost friend.

>7 Belladonna1975: It helps to be Jack Harkness when it comes to Doctor Who. Certainly there are Doctors and companions I am more interested in, but I will often take anything I can get if you know what I mean and I think you do. (There are a bajillion Doctor Who books not related to the new series, is what I mean.)

A very old hardcover edition of Little Women that the book owner would not send to me until she'd sent me pictures - when I got it, I realized that it was an edition with the same illustrations that I remembered as a child.
The entire Series of Unfortunate Events, mooched book by book, which I read with the children over months and months. They were thrilled every time one arrived.
German language crime novels, which are unavailable here unless one is willing to pay loads to get them shipped from Amazon.de. I now have dozens, available at just 2 points apiece.
And several pristine hardcovers, acquired when the books were first published, including The Children's Book, Serena and Child 44.

Everybook I recieve through BM is a treasure but there are two that Angels have sent me that were hard covers with dust jackets intact. Ones I thought I was going to have to go buy on ebay for big money. Eragon and Lady Knight. Both had been out for a few years long enough that getting one in really good condition I felt may have been hopeless. Then my Angels came through and I love them.
Also because of trolling the thrift stores for BM I've come across a few books that I thought I'd never get. Like and ARC of Eldest. So many books so little time.

When I first joined bookmooch I don't think I owned a single book by Roald Dahl, though he is one of my favourite authors. (Thank you, libraries!) After being a member of bookmooch for just over nine months I now own twenty-three books and counting, several thanks to angel mooches! It makes me so happy to see them all lined up on my bookshelf.

There are so many wonderful bookmooch experiences.
It goes without saying that it is always a thrill to receive in the mail a book that is a popular recent release in like-new condition. I am astounded at how many times that has happened.
I am also amazed at how many wonderful history books I have been able to acquire through Bookmooch.
Heather was talking about childhood favorites, and this week I received a copy of The Hundred and One Dalmations by Dodie Smith, which was a childhood favorite of mine. I can't wait to read it again.
About ten years ago I subscribed to a cooking magazine that I really liked. One particular issue was a favorite as it had several recipes that I used frequently. One time my daughter was doing a project for school where she needed to include pictures of food, and cut up that particular issue to get them...and to add insult to injury, she did it outside on the patio and then left the magazine sitting in a puddle of water. ARRGGHH!!! It recently occurred to me to try searching on Bookmooch, and yes, I was able to mooch a copy of that particular issue in brand-new condition!
When I was young I read The Robe by Lloyd C. Douglas. It was written in the 1930s, and I had an old copy that dated to the 1940s. It is a wonderful book, but mine was falling apart. I recently managed to find a newer release in like-new condition on BM. While I was at it I discovered a number of other books written by Douglas that I was able to mooch. They are all older books but in very good condition. I am really looking forward to reading through them, and thrilled that I was able to find all of these out-of-print books. Other old treasures I have enjoyed have been books written by Maria von Trapp, who had a delightful sense of humor, and a collection of articles written by Ernie Pyle during WWII that was published right after the war. One advantage BM has over PBS is that because we aren't held to such rigid posting guidelines it is possible to find older books that don't have ISBNs or meet more strict standards. But there are those books that are childhood favorites or out of print and you are positively delighted to find a copy in any condition.

It's like Christmas here every week with BookMooch books (and PBS books too) coming in at least once a week or so and while I love them all, my highlights are:
any of the Sword and Sorceress anthologies I've gotten
all of the Discworld books (I have every single paperback now!)
Poison Study and Magic Study by Maria V. Snyder
How Sassy Changed My Life
Inda and Senrid by Sherwood Smith
Mr. Funky's Super Crochet Wonderful
both Stitch n Bitch books I found on BM
the volumes of Fruits Basket and Bleach I've actually gotten (manga is my most canceled/rejected type of book)
How to Suppress Women's Writing

Out of all the wonderful books I've gotten from Bookmooch, I think that the two I was most excited for were The Year of Living Biblically and The Crimson Petal and the White.

I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith is my favorite find (so far). I'd never heard of it, had never seen it and am so happy to have found it on BookMooch.

I've been a member for only a few weeks, but I've already had a "find" that makes me chuckle each time I think of it. It's a paper doll book of Barack and Michelle Obama. Someone has angeled it for me in Australia and I'm waiting for notification to mooch it. Most of the books on my wishlist aren't available, although some of them should trickle in over time, but this one was serendipity. I'm not even sure what I was searching for when I spotted it.
21thioviolight
I've only mooched three books so far, but they're all precious finds for me. =)
The Year's Best Fantasy: First Annual Collection
The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror : Thirteenth Annual Collection
Snow White, Blood Red
all edited by Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling

I also mooched the 19th or 20th annual collection (I forget which) a few months ago. I love finding anthologies on Bookmooch.

Someone just sent me old paperback copies of five nearly-impossible-to-find John Wyndham books (he wrote Day of the Triffids). I'm so tickled!!! Most of the works I've read have been ILL, and NJ has suspended ILLs because of budget issues. Now I'll have my very own.

21> I have almost completed my Datlow/Windling collection thanks to BookMooch!
I only have to get The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror: Fourth Annual Collection and The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror: Sixteenth Annual Collection!
Then there are a few new and a few old and obscure Datlow's that I am still looking for.
But, overall BM has been great for filling the holes in my collection.

Wow, that's wonderful! I've still a long way to go with the YBFH collections. Haven't found / been notified about any lately and often others beat me to it. But I'm still very thankful for my great finds, and I'll be on the lookout for more of 'em. =)

Re: Doctor Who Books: Today is my fathers birthday, and I was lucky enough to snap up *3* old series Dr. Who books on BM and they were nice enough to send them to his address rather than mine :) Tons of fun reading for him.
Some books I put on my BM list more to remember to buy them if I saw them, never thinking they would turn up on BM. But they did!
The Italian Slow Cooker
The grains cookbook
The world without us - very heavily wishlisted!
250 Ways to Make Candy #15 is part of a 1950's cookbook series I am in the process of collecting. I have probably 3/4 of them. Didn't think one would show up on bookmooch! Someone was nice enough to angel it out of the US for me. :)
For all the Tea in China- An Arc copy came my way, before it is even out!
Dehexing sex: Russian womanhood during and after Glasnost- was the first book mooched, for a friend who was working on her thesis on womanhood during and after the Vietnam war and contrasting that to Russia. Talk about great timing!

I've only been on Book Mooch for a few weeks but have been quite excited to successfully mooch a few things:
Roma Tearne, Bone China - My first find on BM, after initially thinking "there's nothing much here" - I'd imported a bit of my Amazon wishlist into BM and got this email. I'd just read Brixton Beach.
Katharine McMahon, The Crimson Rooms - only a few weeks after it came out in mass market paperback, and I probably would have bought it at some point if I hadn't got this first.
Last night I got another wishlist email and am looking forward to receiving Joshua Ferriss, Then We Came to the End.

I actually discovered LT on BM when I was looking for forums there. LT was mentioned as a place with a BM community, and after joining in Nov, I have almost 700 books catalogued and a huge TBR and WL, as well as lots of booklovers to talk to.
Also have received over 110 books. My favorite find makes me happy every day!
