Texas, Lone Star State....right in the middle. Fort Hood...Killeen, Texas.

See, what I do when I go on vacation is to take books related to where I'm traveling. So I'd look for books about Texas, by Texans, etc.

How about something by Larry McMurtry, Molly Ivins, or Kinky Friedman?

Well there's always Stephen King's book The Stand both the original 1978 version and then the 90s version of The Stand:
The Complete and Uncut Edition. Louis L' Amour and Zane Grey probably wrote a lot of Westerns where stories took place in Texas.

Rick Riordan (yes, of Percy Jackson fame) wrote a very successful series of mysteries based in and around Santa Fe.

ETA Ok, NM, not TX, but hey, I'm from New England! lol

I see that, I am still looking. I ordered a book about Texas sort of a travel guide...we'll see.
