Several of us have plans to read The Abhorsen Trilogy by Garth Nix over the summer months - one book each for June, July and August.

Anyone is welcome to join in, so I hope you will! We begin June 1st with Sabriel.

Stasia, are we starting to READ on June 1, or to DISCUSS on June 1?

Count me in!

I'm in as well. I needed something to fill in after finishing up Prydain!

Also, I'll add this to the group page.

I'm looking forward to this one! I read Sabriel when it first came out and really enjoyed it, but somehow never got around to the sequels.

I'm in too, I haven't read this series before although I'm enjoying the Keys to the Kingdpm series by Garth Nix.

I'm in too - for a re-read. See post on spoiler thread (no spoilers in it though!)

I haven't reread this for quite a while--looking forward to a fresh read and what I might discover in it!

#2: Terri, we are starting to read on June 1st.

My daughter dug up all three books for me yesterday, so I am ready to go!

Great! It looks like we are going to have a fun group for this one!

I took a look at the book and there are 29 chapters as well as a Prologue and an Epilogue. I would propose the following reading schedule:

Week 1 - Prologue, Chapters 1-7
Week 2 - Chapters 8-16
Week 3 - Chapters 17-25
Week 4 - Chapters 26-29, Epilogue

I made week 4 the smallest reading week because immediately on the heels of completing Sabriel we will be starting Lirael. Thoughts? Any input is welcome!

Sounds good to me! :)

Yes, sounds very good!

Personally, I'm hopeless at following a reading schedule. Just choosing to read the book in a particular month is enough for me!

I haven't done a group read in forever, but I'll try. I just bought the first one - 496 pages!! - OMG! You're killing me.

#14: No problem, Zoe. Just chime in on the spoiler thread when you feel like it.

#15: We are not attempting to kill you, Charlotte, so calm down :)

I've never done a group read before, but I've been meaning to reread Sabriel and to read the other two books, so I'm in for this one!

I'll join in! This will be my first group read :) This has been one of my favorite trilogies for ages and I've been meaning to reread them. I was going to lend Sabriel to my aunt... but she'll have to wait.

Hey, Stasia, sorry to be dense. Just to clarify--we start reading on Tuesday, or start the discussion of that part of the book on Tuesday?

30alcottacre

We are supposed to start reading next Tuesday (except for Jim who cheated and finished the book already!)

The vote is in to go ahead and read Lirael beginning today, so for this week, we need to read the Prologue and Part 1.

38alcottacre
Jun 29, 2010, 10:49 pm

For this week, we need to read Part 2 - if anyone is paying attention :)

Definitely paying attention!

40alcottacre

It is a long section, Roni. Do you think we should split it in half?

41tloeffler

I'm paying attention. And no, no splitting. I hate stopping.

It's Tuesday again, and that means time to start reading Part 2 of Abhorsen if you are on schedule, and time to completely ignore this guideline if you aren't! REaders at all paces are welcome!

44ronincats
Jul 28, 2010, 3:51 pm

Time to get busy and finish the book, if you can. Part 3 is nice and short, and surely you want to find out how this ends up, don't you? Don't forget to post on the spoiler thread when you finish, whenever you happen to do so!!
