Jack Sawyer three? OMG

My favourite Stephen King books to date have been The Talisman and Black House, which he wrote with Peter Straub. Both of these novels together make up what is often referred to as The Jack Sawyer Duology or series.
But it seems that a third is finally going to be written by King and Straub. The third installment in the Jack Sawyer series (which will make it a trilogy) is to be the conclusion to the tale of Jack Sawyer. I always thought there would be a third book, well I more hoped than thought, because Black House ended on a cliffhanger and the only other work that I could find that was connected to Jack Sawyer was the short story Sisters of Eluria from the collection Everything's Eventual.
Jack Sawyer is one of my favourite characters from the mind of Stephen King (and Peter Straub), especially as an adult so I would like to see (read) more of Jack Sawyer.
Also I don't think we saw enough of the territories in all honesty in either The Talisman or Black House. The Talisman had about half set in the territories and half on our plain of the earth, but there was literally about three scenes set in the territories in Black House.

Oh, and Stephen King's Dark Tower cycle is really heavily linked to Jack Sawyer and I'm just about to polish off The Waste Lands, I think this one is the best in the Dark Tower so far.

Any info on title or release date? I was almost sure there was an intended sequel to Black House because of the way it ended

Straub on Talisman 3

Posted: December 24, 2009, 23:41:25

Peter Straub wrote this on his Twitter:

And for those who care, no worries. In about a year SK and I will begin planning a new book.

Ah, so if they are going to be planning the new book come December of 2010, then it will probably not be available to us for another year or two (hopefully not too much longer) afterwards. Anticipation: ain't it wonderful?

I loved The Talisman and was lukewarm about Black House, but even so I would love to see Jack Sawyer as an adult in The Terriroties. It would be amazing to have an adult take on an entirely different universe rather than having Jack mostly forget his adventures as he did in Black House. I found it interesting the different ways that uncle Morgan and Jack's father interacted with the Territories and would like to see Jack's take and detail about the social structure from an adult viewpoint in the next book. That is a book I would stand in line to buy.

I never thought of it that way, but those things would be really good things to see, I'd love see how his relationship blooms with Sophie. There is so much potential for this third one, I just can't wait to read it :D

Hello, 2010. Here I am from the future (2021) and I'm here to tell you that there is still "talk," but conflicting reports from both Stephen King and Peter Straub, that a third and final book in the Talisman series will be written.

Meanwhile, there also are rumors (perhaps closer to truth) that The Talisman will be made into a series on Netflix. But you from the past probably can't grok how that would be better than a feature-length movie. You'll have to trust me, it is.

TTFN (no one says this anymore).

Thank you for the update! I haven't started this "trilogy." Maybe I'll wait until we have a more solid answer.

For those interested: Peter Straub passed away September 4, 2022 (age 79 years). Of course this means no Jack Sawyer 3 unless Stephen King can make room in his schedule to write the entire conclusion on his own.... or maybe Peter's daughter could or would help?

RIP Peter Straub (admittedly a couple years late)

I hadn't heard that, so thank you for sharing.

SK said he had a long chat with Straub before he passed away. He outlined what he would've liked Volume 3 to be about. SK said he liked many of the ideas and had a few of his own. SK said he would like to write the third volume, it's just finding the time. I suggest getting one of his sons, maybe Joe Hill to help him write it.

>12 Eastonorfolio: Yes, Joe Hill could be an asset. I have read some of Joe's work and liked it.

>12 Eastonorfolio: Those of us wishing for a 3rd Jack Sawyer novel have had our wish granted! I just found out today that Other Worlds Than These: A Talisman Novel will be released this fall, in October. It is up for pre-order now. Of course, I claimed my copy.

You are most welcome. I might read the first two again also. It has been years since I did.

I've started The Talisman and found a business card bookmark from a restaurant in Vermont we went to probably 20-25 years ago. I guess that's the last time I tried reading it.
