Since the new rules make searching through the thread mandatory, can we please not have additional spaces in the words, or perhaps something written in the format 'r e m o t e" will be considered not the same as "remote".

I have been using additional spaces between letters because it is easier on tired old eyes like mine (and perhaps others in the game) - I had not thought that it could interfere with the search for used words. If it is a problem, I will stop doing it.

(I assumed the spaced words were just following how Skoobdo chose to format the first move in (the first thread of) this game, but agree that if people are going to want to use search to check for re-use, we should all just spell our words unspaced.)

i don't use spacing..but when i'm trying to make a new word, i write out, on here, the former word, s p a c e d. Then i play around taking out and adding letters!

I space between letters because I usually play on the run. I prefer spacing because I can see the word better. I don't think we can change the size of the font which would help.Whatever the majority wants.......

LAPSED
(I wasn't trying to create controversy by suggesting using the find function, just had some of my early entries in this group (don't know which thread) rejected for repetition, and learned the hard way that I'd better check, since I don't easily remember previous plays. And then I learned that I'm best off checking twice, once with spaces and once without. By setting it up as a rule, I was just trying to reflect what seemed to be the sense of the previous thread. Sorry if I stirred the pot unnecessarily)

No offence taken. I, also make alot of mistakes because I am never sitting down when playing. How do you use the find function?

If you hit "CTRL f " you will open a find-box in your upper right corner. Type in your word until (hopefully) the count turns red and tells you there are none of them.
This will work on pretty much any web page or document, and can be extremely useful for other things than playing games like this.

(Of course, it only works on the current thread, because the previous threads were on a different "page"; you could open them up in separate tabs too, to check them, but seems like a lotta bother to me!)

@ message 81. stop with the polite policing! since i joined, skoobdo and csilver have always double spaced. if it is easier on their eyes, regardless of the find factor, then i say they should continue playing exactly the way THEY choose to play. and as for the sin of word repetition? no worry. you'll let us know!

Carrotlady @220 You taught me a new word! Thanks, especially since it's a construction I use not infrequently.
