Sad to hear of this great conductor's death today.

I was privileged to hear him conducting Janacek's Cunning Little Vixen at Covent Garden barely three months ago. He was obviously frail, not moving from the podium.
I believe that he said that the closing music of that opera, where the forester reflects on the inexorable cycle of life and death, played at Janacek's funeral, would suit him when his time came.
He will be missed.

I believe his were the first interpretations of Janacek's operas I ever heard. They were a truly wonderful introduction to that music.
RIP, Sir Charles.
