I didn't see a note on Siepi's recent passing so I thought I'd post a link to his NY Times obituary here: Cesare Siepi, Renowned Italian Opera Singer, Dies at 87 and an obituary from The Guardian: Cesare Siepi
Siepi was an intelligent, dignified singer and a truly striking stage presence. I think all these qualities are evident in abundance in this remarkable video of Siepi in his signature role, Don Giovanni, from the 1954 Salzburg Festival: Don Giovanni and the Commendatore
May his legacy live long and may he rest in peace.

Oh, thank you for noting this.

The one time I saw Siepi on stage was in San Francisco in 1981 when he partnered with Giuseppe Taddei as, respectively (and expectedly) Don Giovanni and Leporello. A wonderful performance greeted with a 15-minute ovation at the end, even if both were a little past their prime. Coincidentally, Taddei (aged 94) passed away only a month before Siepi.
