About 10 or 15 years ago I was looking for a book on adventurous and daring women and I found one. I can't recall the title or the author's name and wonder if someone can help. Googling has produced nothing.
This woman travelled to Tibet when it was illegal and her goal was to get to Llasa. Her many travels were financed by an older man she married for his money. I believe the time period was the 30's or 40's? The woman was either American or British.

Yes! Thanks. I knew as soon as I saw her name. Happened a decade or so before I thought, but I was close.

My mother has done a translation (from French to English) of Alexandra David-Neel's memoirs about her time in India, but she has yet to find an interested publisher.
It is interesting how much she (David-Neel) was respected in India for her knowledge of Eastern religion/philosophy/spirituality - she was a self-taught scholar - despite being a Westerner and a woman. She was also fearless in a way that kind of takes your breath away.
