Harriet Beecher Stowe's definitely impactful work Uncle Tom's Cabin is, of course, a reflection of its own time and attitudes. For the modern reader the work may seem as pushing belittling stereotypes. No matter how dated this book in some ways may be, there is no denying that it is one of the great pillars of the American experience. That alone would make it worth reading.
Uncle Tom's Cabin is a big book, and makes for a long reading; over 20 episodes, I think. The journey to Uncle Tom's world begins here.
