As an interlude in the longer reading of Uncle Tom's Cabin, Julie gives us a teaser from the suspenseful thriller (which I would not call quite romance) The Moon-Spinners by Mary Stewart.
I first met Mary Stewart in her retelling of Merlin mythos: The Crystal Cave, The Hollow Hills, The Last Enchantment. Sword and sorcery does not need to be Conan-esque rampaging and pillaging; a more thoughtful telling can be captivating.
