I have just watched the first act of this 'real time' production by RAI from Mantua on BBC2. Filming the action in authentic locations is an attractive idea from the same director who produced a similar version of Tosca from Rome in the early 1990s. It is going well with Placido Domingo singing the title role as a tenor-ish baritone, Julia Novikova as Gilda and Vittorio Grigolo as the Duke. Grigolo already has a platinum disc to his credit but I think, after hearing him in Manon at Covent Garden recently, that he has a great future.
Act II is at lunchtime tomorrow and Act III late in the evening - all on BBC2. RAI is broadcasting the opera on other national channels so worth looking for.
