I'm going to interview Kristin Hersh for the October newsletter. If you've read Rat Girl or have another kind of question for her, post it here before September 30. I'd like to try to keep questions relevant to her writing, not just fan-girl geek out about music, if you can help it :)

I'm thankful to LT for alerting me to Kristin Hersh's latest offerings: I was not aware of either Rat Girl or her book/album (Crooked: An Album) that preceded it.

So though I've not read / listened to either, I'm very curious as to whether she had a model for what she'd hoped to accomplish with the book/album, or if she'd never seen anything like it before and aimed to address a specific goal or curiosity she had. The very idea of releasing a musical album in a book format, with full annotations on lyrics, music, and so forth -- it's really quite compelling. At the same time, I immediately fear it could turn into a gimmick. I trust Hersh to navigate those shoals, but I'm interested to know if she had any of those concerns when putting her work out there.

Meantime, I'll see if I can't hunt up a copy of Crooked and draw some of my own conclusions.
