LibraryThing contains a vast catalog of books and their ISBN numbers. There is even API where you can search books based on ISBN.

Currently phones can have very capable barcode readers. If LibraryThing web pages showed the actual ISBN image, which could be read with the phone, it could allow new uses for the site.

For example, I created an application which scans ISBN from books and searches Helsinki library catalog (see it in action http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLYb28c9JF4). It shows if the book is available on local libraries and shows and sorts the libraries based on where you are.

Now if I could do the same thing on LibraryThing website. If I find an interesting book here, I could use the ISBN image on the page and scan it and then quickly check if I could borrow it from any library near me with the application.

What do you think?

(Sorry, I couldn't find a better place for my idea.)
