Detective Tony Rome travels from Miami to corrupt Coffin City, Florida to find out why another detective, Rome's godfather whom he has known all his life, has been savagely beaten. He finds himself involved with a corrupt police chief, the crime boss who runs the town, a beautiful young woman running a newspaper, and assorted other characters, including more voluptuous women. Author Rome, actually the consistently reliable Marvin Albert writing under one of his many pseudonyms, never misses a beat as he spins out his tale of violence, local politics, and gangland rivalries. As with his many other books, you won't be disappointed. This was the last of Albert's short, three book series about detective Rome. Not sure why he gave it up at show more that point.

And to correct any misconceptions anyone may have - Albert published all three of his Tony Rome books, with Rome living on a boat, before John D. MacDonald even began the Travis McGee series!
