The third of the stories told at the Bantrys' dinner party, this is recounted by Sir Henry Clithering, retired Commissioner of Scotland Yard. Dr. Rosen helped bring down the Schwartze Hand, a German secret society. Knowing that his life is in danger from members who escaped arrest, he moves to England and sets up a small household in King's Gnaton, Somerset. He dies in a fall, but no-one in the house seems to be a likely murderer.
