Carnell's taste and mine may not mesh, or maybe he didn't have access to as many good stories as would actually justify an anthology. Even Asimov's was 'meh.' And this is short, too. I actually say 2.5 stars. ( ) A good collection of stories in what was generally a good series. Particular high points for me included "High Eight", which reminds me every time I think of it of Gary Numan's "I Dream of Wires"; "Parking Problem", a light-hearted story of the problems that occur when someone decides to use a non-functioning teleportation device as a rubbish disposal; "Sub-Lim", a great example of the short story horror that tells you all the way through that it will end badly, but gives little clue as to how until the very end; and "Bernie the Faust", an amusing story of how a conman gets out-conned on a grand scale - or does he? no reviews | add a review
