I love JFK, and I love this picture book. It offers a wonderful biography of JFK's life and makes it an enjoyable read for children and adults. The illustrations were wonderful to look at.
John F. Kennedy was a popular president and beloved by many. He did not always have the courage or strength to run for office. He had a rough childhood and was overshadowed by his older brother Joe. After his father's death, he had to live up to his name. He overcame many struggles in order to become the leader of the United States of America.

This book is great for kids that need to see how someone struggles first, but then comes out on top. Being successful after going through tough times is important and should motivate students to do the best that they can.
Rappaport offers a good introudction to young readers of Kennedy's public and private life, emphasizing his virtue of courage--his heroism in World War II, coping with his chronic pain, his peaceful resolution of the Cuban missile crisis. Tavares's illustrations are larger-than-life but realistic, resisting the trap of rendering Kennedy too idealized or romanticized.
This is a nicely illustrated biography of John F Kennedy. The book is very well written and shares key events in the President's life which include the death of his brother and his resulting entry into politics (at his Dad's 'request') to his election as President and his untimely death at an assassin's bullet. This is a good addition to any intermediate classroom library.

John F. Kennedy is hands down my favorite President of all time. This picture book biography, tells the life of JFK beautifully. It is a great read for everyone. This would probably be great for grade 4 and up.
