This book is a historical fiction, about the Seminoles that resided in the Everglades in Florida. It is written from the perspective of an eleven year old girl, that will eventually take over her families clan. The story deals with the fear and anger that came from the invasion of white people. It talks about the plights that Native Americans faced, including slavery, wars, and being pushed further and further away from their lands. The story emphasized the importance of remembering, and how important traditions are to a groups identity. This story would be a good supplement when dealing with the history of slavery or when teaching about the long term affects of colonization.
