"Once he was a young, happily married businessman. Then he lost his wife to human madness and that young man was gone, replaced by the Loner, the wandering son of legendary gunfighter Frank Morgan, and now the current occupant of a cell in the brutal and unforgiving Hell Gate prison. The Kid's crime? He looked too much like an outlaw who escaped from this very prison. So the Kid teams up with a fellow inmate with an escape plan, vowing to hunt down a look-alike killer on the loose. But in or out of prison, Frank Morgan's boy knows better than to trust anyone. Title: Seven Days to Die (The Loner #6)
Author: J. A. Johnstone
E-book format: 318 pages
Year: 2011
Publisher: Pinnacle
My rating: 5 out of 5 stars.
Wow! Here is a tale that grabbed my attention the moment I started reading! Conrad Browning is the main character in the Loner Series. Conrad is also known as The Kid. His father is the infamous gunfighter Frank Morgan that readers can enjoy in The Last Gunfighter Series. Conrad’s past is littered with broken dreams, a broken heart and so far a distant relationship with his father. In Seven Days to Die, Conrad is taken prisoner by a bounty hunter who returns him to prison.
The prison is known as Hell’s Gate and that aptly fits the bill. Conrad tries to keep his past to himself, but risks telling folks who he really is in the hopes he can escape prison. When the Kid starts to try and locate the man he was mistaken for, the risks he takes to do so climb exponentially.
The Kid is fighting to stay alive, protect the warden’s daughter, take out the gang terrorizing a town, and so much more! Seven Days to Die is a thrilling western that is filled with gun smoke and intrigue. The action is nonstop and wait till you read how it all ends! I recommend reading the series in order, though it isn’t necessary to enjoy the book.
