In this book, Denise Fleming uses minimal words to fully get the meaning across. Each page has a different animal with an identical line. The minimal words is necessary because the artwork allows readers to get a feel of how Denise Fleming was feeling. The pictures on each page were done so carefully that the less words made it better.
This book is about baby animals sleeping and a mother putting her own baby to bed. The text is very recurring and doesn't vary which makes it uninteresting reading to a child. The illustrations are cute and big which helps to keep focus to the book.
Used for Baby Animals Storytime October 2010. Would not use again.
The heavy repetition in the text, although almost boring, makes this just right for babies and toddlers, but the pictures, while beautiful, are too abstract for babies to see/comprehend. I used it for storytime, but really prefer something a little more active than this. The illustrations, created by adding pastel pencil accents to the pulp paintings, really are lovely, so maybe this would work as a bedtime book for toddlers or young preschool kids.

'Sleepy, Oh So Sleepy' is by author and illustrator Denise Fleming. The book seems like a book strictly for the child's bedroom as a bedtime story. I'm not sure how much enjoyment a child will get by reading this themselves. Though I do see this as a wonderful book to read to your child to help them get to sleep.
The author shows all sorts of beautiful illustrations of animals sleeping in preparation of getting the baby/reader to sleep.
Great for reading to a young child before bed, especially with the beautiful animal illustrations.
