This is a book full of "scary" stories and jokes.

Actually, they're the corniest things this side of the great state of Nebraska. I'm not spoiling much if I tell you that the Viper makes an appearance. You know - he vants to vash and vipe your vindows?

Yeah. That's about the level for all of these. The only sane man is the poor beleaguered dog, who constantly holds up signs indicating how much he thinks you should NOT look at those scary pictures (vegetables and your report card) and how those jokes are so funny he forgot to laugh. (He storms out at the end of the book.)

Okay, so you won't be that amused. You've heard all of these before. Repeatedly.

But if your kid is at that just-right age for getting jokes, I bet this one will be a big hit.

For reasons entirely beyond me, my 10-year-old son absolutely loves this book. It's corny, silly, and filled with the worst jokes that take off on "horror" setups...oh yeah, that's probably why. Actually the illustrations are rather fun.

Very long for storytime. Classic scary stories, coffin-getting a cough drop, I am the viper-the vindow viper, really bad jokes, didja order a pizza.
