This series is below a 'level one' in the beginning reading section, meaning that it's for pre-readers. These are so good they make me want to write a love letter to Cynthia Rylant. Since I have a not-even-three-year-old who is already showing lots of interest in memorizing sight words (I think he's going to take after his mama and be an early reader), the controlled, repeated vocab in these is just perfect. Bonus, it's about a big puppy.
This is short but sweat picture book. The story is about a puppy named mudge who loves his blanket. He takes his blanket everywhere. Throughout the book mudge loses his blanket and is really upset. After looking everywhere, he finds it by sniffing around. The illustrations in this book are very colorful and fit well with the text.
Z loved this . . . simple vocab as he struggles through the early stages of reading, but a cute and funny story compared to some of the other early readers we've slogged through.
Mudge is Henry's dog. Mudge loves his little green blanket. He brings his little blanket every where he goes! At times when he cant find it, it is up to henry to help him find or else Mudge may never go to sleep! This is a really cute book. It is great for a beginners book because it is full of big font, and has very short sentences. Definitely a book I would enjoy reading to my son.
Cynthia Rylant's "Puppy Mudge Loves His Blanket" is an easy reader for the beginner. Pre-level 1 in the Ready-to-Read scale, the very short story of Henry and Puppy Mudge's blanket offers a great platform for word recognition, repetition, and simple sentence reading.
A perfect read for the beginner!
Themes: Puppy, Henry & Mudge, Series, pre-level 1 reader.

Henry's puppy, Mudge, loves his blanket. Mudge takes his blanket everywhere he goes. One day, Mudge can't find his blanket. With Henry's help, Mudge looks all over for his blanket. In the end, his sense of smell proves to be a valuable thing because it brings him back to his blanket again.
When Mudge's blanket gets lost, Mudge uses his nose to find it.
