This book was *also* formative in my initial thoughts of possibly living overseas. Shortly after reading it we visited Mexico, and San Miguel, and fell in love. A few years later we began living there. We have now spent six years in Mexico in three different regions. And once the pandemic is over we will undoubtedly return. These books were a valuable primer on life there and the expectations that need to be adjusted. Both of Colpo's books on Mexico are a wonderful place to start if you see travel in your future.
Of all potential future destinations, Mexico is most possible, the closest, the most likely. That said, Mexico is impossible. I'll never go there. I'm still intrigued with it and I love to think about a future there. Cohan makes Mexico dreamy and irresistible, fun and adventurous, exciting and homey. I know it. I'll never move there. I can dream anyway.
It's refreshing to read what is truly a celebration of Mexico. Its land, its culture, and most of all its people. I loved Cohan's perspective on this wonderful country and society. The writing is conversational like many travelogues, and that makes it easy to get into and enjoy.
