A character in the Katie Kazoo, Switcheroo series, George has now moved with his army family to a new town where he will have to start a new school. He decides it is time to reinvent himself, no longer waning to get into trouble as the class clown. He even changes his last name from Brennan to Brown, hoping to convince himself of the new and improved George. On his first day at Sugarman Elementary, while attempting to win over new friends without jokes, he discovers that at his new school they do weird things like square dance and play Killer Ball. After an unfortunate sneezing incident that lands him in the cafeteria during recess, George is happy when his mother suggests going to Ernie’s for an ice cream treat to celebrate his first day at his new school. But just as he was enjoying his root beer float, George lets out a burp so loud that it shakes the table! As everyone in the shop laughs, George can’t control himself and jumps on the table, sticking straws up his nose, as everyone cackles. Now, every time he burps, he can’t stop himself from performing silly pranks, which only leads to the one thing he was trying to avoid—trouble. This chapter book for early grades includes simple drawings to add to the humorous story. Though George is not a particularly original character, Younger readers will find him funny and will more than likely seek out the remainder of the series. ( )

Oh how I loved this book, let me count the ways. Aaron Blecha's drawings are awesome!! Showing George Brown's mouth and his warped tounge during the first burp was awesome. I had no idea how the story was going to play out. I loved every page of this book. I cannot wait to read all the books in the series and stay in the loop when a new one comes out. ( )

A good one for the boys who like to read about funny boys doing 'bad' things like burping and acting crazy. 2nd or 3rd grade. ( )
