It was the slightest bit slow in the beginning but takes off right after the masquerade. Do not give up on this book so quickly!

Jolie is a little different than your atypical UrbFan leading lady. She's not a vampire or dating a werewolf- but she can raise the dead! She learns she's a witch thru a handsome warlock (one you seriously want to smack sometimes for being so upstanding, ha ha) and suddenly everyone wants her on their side.

Definitely looking forward to some interesting happenings with Sinjin in Jolie's future. Love triangles are always fun. ^_^ ( )

I was surprised by this book. I picked it up because it was $1 on my Kindle. I actually liked it pretty well. It's a cheesy romance (which I'm not usually in to) but with vampires and warlocks (but not Twilight-y at all). I liked it enough to buy the second one in the series...if you're into that kind of a thing give it a whirl...it's cheesy...but good. ( )

I started reading this book after a hospital visit when I was home recovering. It captured my imagination and carried all the way through to the end. When I finished I immediately bought the second book because I had to know what happened next. A good book in a series will do that. This one was a cliff hanger for me.
This story of witches and warlocks, vampires, werewolves and fairies was fun and entertaining without being heavy. ( )

Hardly literature, but not too badly written. Felt it a bit pandering to the target audience that every main character has to be so smexy. Not that I am protesting much. And the entire gamut of creatures are crammed here in full attendance: witches, ghosts, vampires, werewolves, fairies, pixies, demons... Anybody else? We wouldn't want to leave any being out, would we? Oh right, fairy dragon battle.

I found it personlly funny that one of the first things she does with her newly-discovered abilities is glamour magic (change her eye color). Heck, I would probably do the same. *flashback to teen years of candle lighting and incense burning and chant muttering* Maybe this is why I had more patience for this than, judging by the prevalence of 1-star reviews, most people. This was a guilty pleasure.

But did not one else feel as apprehensive as I did when they were eating fairy food? Everybody knows if you eat or drink anything there you'll be stuck.

And every powerful being has the hots for Jolie. Just made me shake my head at men and how they feel more macho if they can bed the best female.

The entire thing (c'mon, an Underworld civil war? The heroine, a budding necromancer, 'the Chosen One'? Throw in a prophecy from a dying hag for good measure) is so deliciously absurd; I felt like I was watching a Sabrina The Teenage Witch movie. But I kept reading because I was looking forward to Jolie eventually gaining self-confidence, which is a good theme for a story to have, no? ( )

Last night I finished reading "Fire Burn and Caldron Bubble" and I really liked the back story with Rand and Jolie. Also how Sinjin fits into things, as he is one of my fave characters!! What can I say British Vampires and I am so there...LOL. I actually saw DURAN DURAN in concert on 8/19/12, so I loved the part where Jolie thought "The silence became too much and I turned on the radio, trying to find something to pull my attention from the thoughts going through my head. Duran Duran's "Rio" blasted out, and I relaxed back into my seat, not caring if Sinjin was an eighties fan or not." :) Anyway, this is great reading...check it out!!
