Description
As Barcelona prepares for the Games, the city is turned over to make way for new roads, a new stadium and the giant prawns of Mariscal. The first book I read by Montalban. His detective fiction is good, lifted out of subgenre by its ambiguous plot and epicurean lead, whose fondness for food and wine is infectious. The most interesting aspect of "An Olympic Death" is the confrontation between old and new, between the lush luxuriousness of the new Barcelona of the olympic era, and the old Catalan sidestreets and alleyways.
