Kite Flying is a great early reader book, that follows along with a family who works together to make the dragon kite. It also gives the background of kite flying and the importance behind certain kites. Simple and fun for Pre-K to first-graders.
This book is for primary students. There is little text.
This story is about a family who wants to fly a kite. In china, they believe that fly a kite carries away all of your bad luck. The family creates their own kite by hand and they make a dragon because this is a significant symbol in their culture.
I really enjoyed this book because I learned a lot about Chinese culture that I didn't know about previously. I would read this to my class to teach them about Chinese culture or other traditions. I might also allow the class to work together to make a kite and fly it. We can talk about why these cultures believe and practice these things. This would be an art activity and physical activity.
This book is a sweet book that represents family and spending time together. It also represents Asian-American culture and the traditions of flying kites and what it resents in the Chinese culture. Overall, this book is a great picture book, and has great information of the different tools you may need to fly a kite.
