This is a short book (30 pages on a Kindle) that describes Cassiopeia Vitt's capture, escape, recapture, re-escape from a natural cavern that tied into a Balkan Rila mountain Thracian burial tomb originating 5000 years ago. This archaeological treasure was unearthed by a Russian excavating crew trying to verify and size a uranium find. Cassiopeia just happened to stumble into this unfortunate situation while looking for evidence of a reputed Thracian site in this area. It is a joy to read of a rich, resourceful, self sufficient heroine like Cassiopeia and follow her exploits while marveling at her chutzpah. It is a useful story as several of the characters reappear in some follow-on stories by Steve Berry. Good, interesting, historical, show more quick read! This background helps understand further character development as the stories and adventures continue. show less
This is a prequel to The Emperor's Tomb and the subject was interesting, but honestly, I'm not too fond of these short adventures stories between books. Too few pages, when you get into the story it’s over.
This is a short story that I wanted to get to in order to satisfy my inner complete-ist on the series front, but I'd be lying through my teeth if I said that it was a must-read or that it was required for a complete understanding of Cotton Malone and his world.

Steve Berry ought to be embarassaed. DON'T PAY FOR THIS. A one chapter novel, where nothing of interest happens, except the introduction of a character for his novel, The Emperor's Tomb.
It was alright, some of the history behind it was interesting but that’s just it.
This was just a short story where Cassiopeia Vitt is caught in an unfortunate circumstance that could turn very deadly. It is a prelude to the Cotton Malone Emperor's Tomb which hopefully I will get to this month.
