A Treeful of Pigs

When the farmer convinces his wife to buy a herd of pigs, he promises that they will share the responsibility and chores together. However, when the pigs need corn planted, or a mudhole, or their food harvested, the farmer simply lays in bed promising to help another day. The farmer, tired of being asked to help, one day wishes for his pigs to just disappear so that he can get his rest. The next day, he finds that his pigs are gone! He begs his wife for help, but she refuses saying, "On the day that you jump out of bed, put on your clothes, and promise never to be lazy again... on that day, I will help you look for our lost pigs." This book was very funny, yet clever. The wife was very witty and the farmer was very lazy however once he finally got out of bed, things were accomplished and everyone was happy. I think that this is a very good book. I think that promises are something that aren''t really understood until the later elementary grades. This would be a very good book to read to a class that is around fourth grade because they would really get what the moral of the story is.

A Treeful of Pigs is a great book for children in kindergarden to second grade, especially for those children who are lazy. In this book, a farmer decides he wants to buy pigs. He tells his wife that they will look after them together. However, as soon as they are all home, all the farmer will do is sleep until the farmer's wife devises a good enough plan to act like the pigs are gone. This finally cures the farmer's laziness, and he gets out of bed and helps his wife with all of the chores from then on out.

A farmer and his wife get pigs, but the wife has to plant the corn, dig a hole, and carry buckets of water for the pigs all by herself because the farmer was too lazy. He slept all the time. The wife played a trick on the farmer and made him think the pigs were gone so the farmer got out of bed and saw that the pigs were still outside. He realized he was being lazy and helped him wife from then on out.
