Peter James Boizot was born in Peterborough, England on November 16, 1929. After finishing his national service in Egypt and receiving a history degree at the University of Cambridge, he worked as a traveling toy salesman, a clerk in the Associated Press newsroom, and a traveling book salesman. He was working as an au pair when he tasted his first show more pizza in Florence, Italy in 1948. He moved back to London in 1964 and opened his first PizzaExpress in 1965. It became an international restaurant with more than 600 restaurants in 13 countries in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. He sold PizzaExpress in 1993. His memoir, Mr. Pizza and All That Jazz, was published in 2016. He was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 1986 in recognition of his political and public service.
